if you maximize your browser window, you will. default keeps the page and post width to a set size, and puts grey on the sides, and liquid expands the post area to fill the whole page. i think liquid looks bad, it makes the page look too sparse and stretched.

They'll come back in the new year - after the Holiday theme is up, and after I've had time to make all the changes to the default theme so it's how I want it.
