I'm a huge fan of the former, I abhor the latter. Rumor has it, Gaga is being approached to do the theme song of the next 007 installment.

Any opinions?

I don't think it will be that bad. I'll keep an open mind and see what she has in store.

While not a huge fan of them, I do think it would be interesting.

I would just rather the series kind of continue doing what they have for 40 years by using big people (most of the time) but not flavor of the month artists.

It makes sense. I think the Alicia Keys/Jack White song from the last one was kind of out of left field idea that worked. Gaga would probably be about the same. If anything else, you can't get worse than Madonna's garbage song.

I think it 'makes sense' because Lady Gaga's the biggest thing musically right now and there are tons of people that would eat that shit up but that by no means says it will work. I don't listen to anything remotely mainstream but I understand that it has to change constantly to keep people interested (and to make money), I just don't want the series to follow suit and recruit the dance/pop/dance/crap music that's big right now for their theme songs. I don't feel like it does justice to the series.

I didn't like the last one, this one will probably be better even though I'm not a gaga fan.

It doesn't matter that she is big now, the movie isn't out till late next year. What matters is if it is good, I have loved most of the Bond songs even though I hate the rest of the artists stuff, I hope this is the same or I am afraid it will be a Madonna fiasco again.

Meh, I"ll kind of agree with you there, though I still see her being huge next year. People want to say she's such a good songwriter and whatever, but every single thing I've heard from her is so superficial it hurts. I just don't think she's the right person for a Bond theme, period.

I can understand not liking GaGa (though I'm a huge fan myself), calling her a flavor of the month is ridiculous. her first single 'Just Dance' hit number one in 2008 and she's had how many since then? Calling her that is just wrong.

I feel like she would do a really good job. She can take pretty much any genre and tweak it to work as pop

I agree that she isn't the right person for a Bond theme but there have been weird choices for the themes before and they have worked but I do wish someone I like would do it.

I apologize, you're right. While she's been out for a while, the whole 'flavor...' thing was more geared towards this giant, sudden leap of very expressive dance/pop/techno music, not really her in particular. I feel like electronic is the big thing now, finding it's way even in a lot of metal, which is what I listen to most. I just don't dig the over-populated sounds of synth over synth with what seems like every instrument coming out of some sort of electronic processor to make it sound weird.

I'll give you that. Garbage was a weird choice and I love that song. I'm just so weary about this.

So am I, it would better if they chose someone who has been around for a few years, is talented and aren't some crappy scene band.

lady gaga is pretty talented. Her music is not my cup of tea, but there is no denying that she has some serious musical chops. She can come with something fitting for a bond theme that will not neccessarly be a dance floor type of song. Just look at her during her early years.

Yes maybe but that talent is always hidden behind looks and over-produced music, unless she gets someone who has previous experience with doing a Bond theme then I doubt it will be any good.

She can do it. She has the talent, the voice, and as long as she steers away from her typical music, it should be good. What I mean by her typical music is actually the lyrics/melodies. I don't want to hear about cheap flings, "disco sticks," or name dropping melodies (Re: "Bad Romance").

I think that her image and stunts will take away from whatever theme she records even if it's a good one. For that reason, I'd like to see somebody else do it. I was incredibly impressed with Chris Cornell's bond theme even though I'm not a big Cornell/Sound Garden fan, so I'd love to see them approach another proven rock act to do it.

Well let's see,
last 4 themes IMO:
Garbage - awesome.
Madonna - yuck.
Cornell - Dignified, good.
White & Keys - too Jack Whitey (lack of flow and melody or whatever) and not that good, no respect for the tradition (Madonna aside).

by my profound statistical analysis, the next one should be good.
The question is, if it's GaGa, can she put her crappy persona and electro pop aside and make a dignified song?
all above IMO, don't hate this player. playing games.

Yes. To other hermaphrodites.
You misunderstood. He meant she appeals for sex. I mean, that's gotta be what he meant right?

I'm tired of seeing this video to show she's talented. The issue I have with her is not talent Christina Aquilera and Whitney Houston have talent I wouldn't listen to them either. I wish Lauryn Hill would put out another album and knock Lady Gaga out of the park.

i just had that video because that dude said she was talentless. I am not that into her music, I am just saying its a bit soon to be writing it completely off. And besides, who really cares about the bond opening. Most of them are pretty stupid.

Nah I get that, I'm just stating every Lady Gaga thread has that video to display her talent. My biggest gripe is there is no substance to her music. Singing about disco sticks seriously this is the next big pop idol. I'd prefer if my little sister listened to something with substance with a message as opposed to this shit.

After watching the movies for 15 years, I think the opening scene is important. Well, maybe not important to the tone of the movie and the plot and the characters, but I still don't want it to suck. And that translates, to me, into me not wanting it to be an electronic mess by a 24 year old middle schooler craving attention by looking ridiculous. I thought about it over night and I don't care how many videos you show me of her playing piano and singing, she's an absolute joke. Maybe she's hard working, maybe she has ideas, but it hardly takes any talent to do what she does.

Anywho, yeah, Mendes is still attached to direct and I guess they've now confirmed that Rachel Weisz will be the head of Quantum, apparently against Craig's opinion.

to be fair, there isn't a whole lot of substance to a lot of the openings. and I doubt she will singing about disco sticks during the next opening.
