By now everyone on this site is well aware of Mayday Parade's new video for Kids In Love. As far as I can see the video has been very well recieved by people on this site. Lots of people who aren't Mayday Parade fans respect this band for making a ballsy video that shows real life instead of the usual cheesy videos bands make. My question is what if Brokencyde or Millionaires had made a video like this? Would you respect them? Or would you talk about how gross they are and be offended?

This video seems a bit over the top after this being the first time seeing it. If brokencyde or millionaires did a video like this, or most bands for that matter, this shit would get tore to shreds and then some.

that's what I was thinking.

i think i've gotta agree. but here's why: reasoning. i think the reason behind the video from mayday parade is life. the song and the video go hand in hand, and whether or not you like the song or the video, i dont think there's any denying that the two make sense partnered together. but if millionaires and brokencyde did it? it just wouldn't make sense. i dont like them or listen to them any more than watching their videos once. now, if those two bands were to make a video that successfully outlined their music and lyrics (at a party, about getting lots of money? and drinking a lot? cool, make a rap video), then it would be ripped to pieces. if they made a video like this and matched it to a song and it didn't make sense at all, it would be ripped to pieces. sure, i do not like them at all. i won't beat around the bush there. but the reason why mayday parade's video is good (in my opinion) is because it makes sense. and its real. i'm not a mayday parade fan anymore, and yes, the video was a bit over the top. but nonetheless, mayday parade is trying to make music that influences and changes people, while brokencyde and millionaires? they're just doing it because they think it's fun to fuck with authority and be rebellious.

thats what i think, and i understand how people may not agree.

I'm not a fan of music videos in general. But I did watch the Mayday Parade video (who i don't really like). I can confidently say that I will never watch a brokenycide or millionaires video no matter what the content is.

before we start jumping to whether or not BC13 or Millionaires make a respectful, well delivered video; we should take a step back and focus on musicianship and lyrics: Mayday Parade's video and song go hand in hand. If those other two bands did it the way that we all know that they would it would be a waste of film.

yeah mayday's got a pretty good rep for their vids matching their songs pretty good (if only their new shit was as good as their old though lol). and i gotta say im not really that big of a fan of music vids nowadays anyways to be honest. more than half of them are too long and too expensive. since TRL aint on anymore, in my opinion, there really is no point in making a EXTREME video lol. yeah you got vh1...yeah you got fuse. but. i dont know. i just dont get the point of a 10 min vid for a 2 min song (yet, probs to gaga, ect lol. some artists can pull it off, more than HALF of em cant. unless their 30STM.. leto's an extremist. hes an "actor". hes gotta "act" in them. hes gotta proove hes a "hardcore double threat")

that's a pretty good point. I read a statement from Alex about the video and he explained the concept pretty well. I feel as bc13 did a video like that it would be glorifying drugs and sex because of the content of their songs. However Mayday Parade put a darker twist on it to go with the lyrics of the song. So yeah you're absolutely right.

Well what did you think of Mayday Parade's video? And will you never watch a Millionaires or BC13 video because you don't want to support them in any way or are you assuming they won't make a good video?

I partly agree. Mayday Parade came at it from a different angle then Brokencyde would. They wanted to say "hey this is life". And show the naievety of young people. It was a dark video that made people feel uncomfortable and I think that was the point. BC13 would most likely approach in let's get crunk and fucked up because it's the cool thing to do sort of way.

I am indifferent about the video. Like I said I am not a fan of music videos overall. The one thing I will give them credit for is at least making a video that fits with the song...which doesn't happen very often. And I would never watch a Millionaires or brokencyde video because I hate their music, can guarantee they won't make a good video, don't want to support them in any way shape or form, and just cannot stand them in general. There are enough hate threads about them in AP so I won't go into it.

I notice a lot of people basically saying the lyrics and the content of the video go hand in hand and that's why they like it, but not once in the lyrics of Kids In Love are mention of any drugs or sex. At least not directly. Do you think the video could have been toned down a bit? Or do you think the video would have been boring and cliche if it got toned down?

I'm with you on your opinion of Millionaires and Bcyde. I pretty much hate them as well. If more videos were like the Mayday Parade videos would you change your mind about music videos or would you still not be a fan?

any video can be "toned down" if they wanna, ya know. and just because the lyrics dont say it, maybe when they WROTE it they had it in mind, ya know. maybe a sub concious metaphore. you dont truely know why they wrote it ya know. or what the inspiration was.

That's very true. That's one of the reasons I like the video so much is because they outlined what the song is really about instead of skirting around the truth of the song so to speak.

I also love how they kind of let us inside their minds with the video.

You're absolutely right. Brokencyde and Millionaires just come out and say stupid shit like "you make my pee pee hard". That's not songwriting to me. Songwriting is metaphors and imagination just like you love. Millionaires just write down what they're thinking and it has no artistic value to it. And then they make a video and it's exactly what you'd expect.

yeah they just get paid to rhyme words, make beats and dance around singing them on a stage bahahah. i mean, that IS music. music doesnt always have to be deep and lyrical.. but ive always been one to hear something like that and not be able to make any connection with it what so ever lol. fun to dance to! but i cant dance lol to each is own.

I just don't receive any value added from a music video. I'm not trying to hate on them because I understand people like to supplement the song with the video and they get something out of it. And there are good music videos. I personally don't need them. It may be a by product of growing older, having less time, changing musical tastes, etc.

Yeah I mean they're basically up on stage saying yeah we love drugs and having sex. There's no mystery to it. It doesn't sound appealing when its put to a song.

You're like my Mom. She doesn't like music videos because it takes away from the imagination of the song which I agree with.
