CK was on Opie & Anthony yesterday talking about the new show. A few things...
- In addition to Ricky Gervais, there's a bunch of other comics who will be guesting: Jim Norton, Nick DiPaolo, and Robert Kelly for sure.
- The show was produced for dirt cheap by network standards, and according to Louis, that will increase the show's chances of sticking around.
- He took full advantage of FX's lax language rules.

Apparently FX gave him a list of like, 4-5 words he couldn't use. And "cock" wasn't on the list because Gervais drops it. Haha. But there was one weird word on the list - "retarded" or something like that that someone in the standards department didn't like.
He did an interview with O&A about the show last week. Pretty interesting behind the scenes stuff.

i just hope it doesn't hurt it not being tied to another comedy. Sort of wish they'd have held it back, and aired it in some block form with Its Always Sunny and The League.

no I'm saying it's that good that Louis CK won't be some punks back pocket comedian anymore, let's face he's not THAT popular, but this show has freshness Always Sunny In Philly once had, or so I feel.
dissident
06/29/10, 10:07 PM
that's true, but Adam Carolla on his podcast today made a very good point that it's almost like a knee jerk overreaction from everyone (and especially other comedians) to praise him and say how good he is. he may not be mainstream popular, but anyone who follows show business at all knows who he is and respects him whether they're familiar with him or not. he has this sort of untouchable quality about him now, that while probably deserved, is worth noting.
i'm not saying he's arrogant or buys into it, it's much more from everyone else.

Really? He may not be Chelsea Handler, Dane Cook, or Jim Gaffigan but...He's definitely up there as far as comics go. Then again, I'm up in Boston. So he's kind of a hometown dude. Shrug.

Looks like they may be trying to double it up with another comedy. Of course, at that point, the other two shows on that line-up will be done with new episodes, I would imagine. But good to know that he's getting right back on sooner, rather than next fall.

while i agree, from all the interviews he's given for it i've gotten the vibe that he doesn't plan on doing like 7 seasons of this thing. i bet it's 4 max, but by his own decision and not 'cause it's canceled.

I gave it a watch the other day, actually -- Really, really great stuff! It was a bit too long, though. Could have stood to be about 15 minutes shorter. Not so much because the material was any less toward the end, but...Over an hour of sitting there watching one dude talk is a bit much. Haha.
Netflix instant is awesome news.
"Mom" is the best episode, so good.

Easily a new top favorite.
The scene with the bully in the doughnut shop, oof. So awkward.

The God episode was fucking awesome. I love the symbolism when they show the guy at the church nailing Jesus back on the cross.
Also the beginning of the Gym episode: "I bet she'd let you rub your smelly little cock all over her depressing tits."

I'm just really loving the whole dynamic of this show. The stand-up is always great, and I love how serious it can get and then come right back with a straight-up hilarious scene. Like the opener this season where he and his sister have that kind of heart to heart talk, and it's really dark, and then the show turns right around with one of the most elaborate fart jokes in recent memory.
As for the last episode, it was great. The car ride scene was incredible, it was great that they kept it going for that whole song. I was dying when he yelled out, "Who the fuck are YOU?" Although it would have been so much funnier had the girls been able to keep straight faces. I don't blame them though, I probably wouldn't have been able to do that scene without laughing.
