Sounded like mediocre Scandinavian metal to me. Nothing to really see here.

Kalmah's new album has already leaked a long time ago which is 12 Gauge

for the people that say the band is mediocre, you are highly mistaken.

Deliver Us was their worst album IMO, they changed their Melodic Death Metal sound to a more Poppier metalcore sound @_@

good thing they delivered with The Eternal Return

maybe that's the reason why you think its so good? try out Undoing Ruin and The Eternal Return, MUCH MUCH better albums, they were better before Deliver Us with Undoing Ruin, i don't know why they went down a notch with Deliver Us, then they came back again with The Eternal Return lol

Hidden hands is getting no love. Kris Norris re-working the solo at the end of For the soul of the savior was incredible. Undoing Ruin was also way up there. Deliver Us was really good, not sure why the dude above thinks it so poor. It was a more melodic album, radio friendlier I suppose, but Tunguska and Fire in the Sky were really excellent songs. I've only listened to The Eternal Return a few times through but I can't seem to get as into it as the other albums.

I agree. I can definitely see how it's poppy and more metalcore; it appealed to me at 15 when my favorite band was Avenged Sevenfold. But there are some quality tracks on it, and Tunguska is one of my favorite songs of all time.

Yeah metal's a pretty broad term I suppose, but I'll play along. Sikth is sweet...Periphery has some very attractive melodies, Killswitch Engage because I enjoy their cheese factor cookie cutter fashion while being so damn solid and Adam D brings the personality. BTBAM because I'm a guitarist and it's just wanker geek music for me. Shadows Fall is great, one of the first newer "metal" kind of bands I truly got into.

That's a bit of a broad question. There are so many sub genres and such these days. In the general field though, I'd have to say ETID.

Found this site a couple of months ago as a source for well...punk, indie etc. I noticed it didn't have much of a metal community, but I didn't expect it to, thus I patron other sites for that type of thing.

However noticing this thread I was inspired to make an account because well people calling Darkest Hour metalcore and describing it as 'poppy' hurt my soul a little. They very rarely incorporate any metalcore elements into their music, so little that I find it a travesty to lump them into the metalcore world. If I were going to describe them based on what really does justice to their general sound I would say thrash/melodeath. They are a much more creative and technical band that doesn't deserve the stigma of metalcore attached to their names. And the the notion of poppy just doesn't set well with me, Deliver Us may have had moments of clean vocals, but they were few and could perhaps be called gritty, not very clean at all, and not done with a lot of pop sensibilities to them. The general sound of the album does not cater to the mainstream even of metal in my opinion, but that's just it, my opinion.

And as for HIM, they are really self-proclaimed love metal, and the world just kind of accepts that tag for lack of a better label, but that seems unfair to metal, I don't know that most of the metal community would be comfortable affording them the liberty of using that label.

If you didn't pick it up, Darkest Hour would be my favorite metal band, being the one that really made me believe in the potential of the genre.
