It is the fourth installment in the film adaptations based on Capcom's survival horror video game series Resident Evil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resident_Evil) and is the first film in the series to be released in 3-D. It is scheduled to be released on September 10, 2010.

They borrowed elements from the games (zombies, Nemesis, characters, settings, etc.) and made their own interpretations, hence based. Also, lol at you thinking 1 and 2 are the only good storylines in the Resident Evil series.

I've played RE since part 1 released back in 96 on playstation. When part 2 came out, i immediately picked it up. IMO, the only other one that was pretty decent was Code Veronica, that was the first one to come out with updated graphics outside of playstation. RE4 and 5 were just horrible, i probably would have enjoyed them better if the control scheme was the same as previous RE games.

I left out the GC remake of RE1, and the Survivor series, because the former was a remake, and the ladder was an FPS which was just weird for RE.

I've never played RE0, but i dont believe that one lived up to the hype as the other sequels.

EDIT: They borrowed the wrong elements, and the wrong characters for the most part. The inclusion of Barry and Wesker (as a bigger part in the story) would have been awesome.

What I don't get is how they couldn't make a movie out of the first game. A mansion, zombies, hunters, tight spaces, huge snakes, so muchhhhh to work with and they go and make Jill, Chris etc second fiddle to some unnecessary character. If they adapted the games as they were they'd easily would have had a better movie. They made Nemesis about as corny as can be, when he regains humanity and all this other stupid shit. I am passionate about RE.

RE: 4 was a precursor to the next gen 3rd person shooter, I will always find this game to be on par with some of the best games of all time. That said RE 4 and 5 were a huge departure stylistically. I didn't mind the tank controls. I also don't mind my zombies slow (and actually being zombies.)

I felt the character POV made RE4 creepier when you see the giant crowd converge on you and your back is to the wall and there is no escape but that's just me.

Different strokes for different folks I guess. I think OTS is going to be a survival horror staple for years to come, namely due to the success that RE4/5 and Dead Space had with it.

I think the controls were made that way to add to the tension of the game. I mean I would be panicing if I am reloading and I got one of those chainsaw guys coming after me.

I agree with the "no pausing" while reloading and using herbs/medkits...but the original control scheme could have been kept, making more use of the R and L paddels, though.

I kinda liked the new over the shoulder shot. I think its far more scarier not knowing what is behind you. dunno, I never liked the control scheme before Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4 was still survival horror, a great one at it, but 5 was more of an action game. There was the atmosphere in 4, but not so much 5.

The first movie was a pretty decent time waster. It had laserz and actual zombie action that didn't revolve around Milla Jocovich beating the shit out of the undead with her bare fists. Oh, wait, I think she jump kicks a fucking dog. Nevermind. I recall Apocalypse being a complete piece of trash, and Extinction wasn't as bad but still mind numbing. This looks more along the lines of Apcocalypse.

Batman - Didnt need one, but im glad Nolan tackled it and made two very good movies.
Superman - There were three in this decade, just let it die.
Predator - No need for one, period.
Star Trek - There have been so many tv shows and movies for this series, the new one was supposed to be a cash cow, and possibly introduce this franchise to a new generation.
Hulk - I've never seen the Bana version, but the Norton version was decent.

RE2 is definitely up there for me.

Personally, this is one shitty film series I hope they reboot down the line. Telling the story as it should be told, with some quality, would be fantastic

I saw this last night I'll do my best to avoid spoilers but you can call everything that happens in this movie from the trailer
I thought this one did a good job of trying to erase some of the shitstorm that was part 3 but I feel this series is to far gone down the drain and needs a reboot. The story wasnt that great and if I were someone who never played the games, iwould have
been confused by some of the things in the movie because they never explained them or they barely
touched on them. Some of the action scenes were pretty tight but I think that the end fight with
wesker was done better in the cutscene from resi 5,
and there was to much cg blood. Overall I'd say this
is worth a rental and if you go in with low
expectations and don't question the bad dialogue,
writing or acting then it's a decent popcorn flick.

I wanna see this but then again I don't, I loved the first two but the third was lacking all the areas that I liked in the previous movies. If this one isn't any better I won't be seeing any more unless a reboot is done.
