Here's the small band round up for today, August 14th. This is probably going to be AP's final round-up, so enjoy and thanks to all who submitted small band news to us while we had this, be it your own band or a small band you thought people deserved to hear about.
Ex-Bellaterra (http://www.myspace.com/bellaterra) vocalist Jordan Kimbro and guitarist Brad Kemp are looking for a bassist and drummer in the Atlanta area to finish out their new line-up for I Sing the Body Electric. They have connections with several notable indie labels that are waiting to hear their debut EP.

ATTN (http://www.myspace.com/attnband) goes into the studio next week to begin work on their debut EP, yet to be titled. Look for more info about this in the future on their myspace page.

The five piece indie band from Chicago, The Elation (http://www.myspace.com/theelation) have released their debut self titled e.p. on Delphine Records, a Chicago based independent label. The band just returned home from a 2 week tour and is planning on touring frequently to support the new release.

Brunswick is streaming their entire EP today on their purevolume page (http://www.purevolume.com/brunswick). They have also posted a video on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/brunswick) from Nada Recording Studio in New York. If you order a copy of the CD through Red Blue Records (http://www.redbluerecords.com) you will receive a Red Blue Sampler featuring tracks from Halifax, Houston Calls, Just Surrender and Damone.

The Tamerlane Recordings (http://www.tamerlanerecordings.com/) website will be down for a bit while they switch to a different server. However, their online store (http://tamerlanerecordings.bigcartel.com/) will still be up and running.

Last week, the Cleveland-based band Driver Side Impact (http://www.myspace.com/driversideimpact) posted the song "Cowboys & Indians" on their Myspace (http://www.myspace.com/driversideimpact) from their debut EP, We Will Disappear. Tomorrow they will post another song from the EP titled "The Artist." Be sure to check those out.

Jason Soroka (http://www.myspace.com/jasonsoroka) has posted a new song, "Aeroplanes" on his MySpace mastered by Bill Henderson (ex- Thursday).

Kiss Kiss (http://www.myspace.com/kisskiss) and The Acacia Strain (http://www.myspace.com/theacaciastrain) will be headlining this year's Musomania Festival (http://www.myspace.com/musomaniact). Head to their myspace for the full lineup and other info.

Voo Doo Blue (http://www.myspace.com/voodooblue) would like you all to know that one of their members, Justin has been in a car crash. He is NOT dead, contrary to what people are saying, but does have a concusion. See their myspace for more information/details on the incident as well as show cancellations.

The Hollow Sound will soon be posting a FREE internet EP on their website (http://www.thehollowsound.com)
and myspace (http://www.myspace.com/thehollowsound). The EP will include 4 sounds and downloadable artwork and liner notes. This is a teaser for their full length that they are currently at work writing. Tours are also being booked for winter, spring, and summer.

Powerspace's (http://www.myspace.com/powerspace) original drummer, Kevin Kane, has rejoined the band. They have posted a lengthy update about this and other exciting news on their myspace.

My Armada (http://www.myspace.com/myarmada) has new shows posted. Check them out at their myspace.

The Takeover UK (http://www.myspace.com/thetakeoveruk) is recording a new EP in NYC in mid september. Check out a new song, "Main St. Crush" on their myspace page.

Building Rome in a Day (http://www.myspace.com/buildingromeinaday) begins preproduction next week on three more songs with producer Justin Powell of A Thorn for Every Heart. The band just shows supporting Showbread as well as Take the Crown and will be playing alongside A Thorn for Every Heart and A Static Lullaby September 15th. The band will also be featured on Every Broken Heart Speaks: Volume 2 that will be released later on this fall through Drive-Thru Records.

Too Late The Hero has changed their name to Love&Reviere (http://www.myspace.com/loveandreviere).

Memories in Texas (http://www.myspace.com/memoriesintexas)has released their "This House Is Crowded" EP and is available for purchase through the guys on their myspace. They posted a sampler track with a minute of all the songs on the EP and "Your Smile Is A Rainbow," the single from the EP. They also have their own version of Hellogoodbye's "Jessy Buy Nothing. . .Go To Prom
Anyways."

Morning Drive (http://www.myspace.com/morningdrive) has posted their new music video for the song "The Good Knight" off their Self-Titled Ep on their myspace.

Roam the River Records (http://www.roamtheriver.com) new band Picasso (http://www.myspace.com/picasso) have posted three new tracks from their yet to be titled full length CD on their myspace.

The band formerly known as "Broken Image (http://www.myspace.com/brokenimagefl)" has changed their name to "De Soto". They have
confirmed a fall tour w/ Don't Die Cindy and are expecting to release their EP sometime next month.

Lancaster, PA's Circus! Circus! (http://www.myspace.com/circuscircusohyeah) have just posted 5 new shows and will be heading into the studio this tuesday (8/15) to start recording their new EP that will be released on Red Sea Recordings, and will then start work on their full length which will be released next year also on Red Sea. They also have just re-posted the demo version of the song "Jehovas Fitness."

CatchingThieves (http://www.myspace.com/catchingthieves) has posted a new song on their myspace titled "The Enemy." The song is a demo off their full length set to be recorded with Paul Leavitt(AllTime Low, Boy Crazy, Over It) this fall.

Livermore, California group We Carry Thy Banner (http://www.myspace.com/wecarrythebanner) uploaded a new yet-to-be-titled track to their MySpace page. The experimental duo will be releasing their new Altamont Records EP at a show on September 4th at The Pound in San Francisco; also performing are Fueled By Ramen's Forgive Durden and Envy On The Coast.

The Waking Life (http://www.myspace.com/thewakinglife)have new songs, tour dates, and contests for you all to check out on their myspace page.

Kids bitching earlier at how "no one reads this" and it being an "unneeded feature". I've decided, and told Jason that it was the last one then if everyone thinks its an unneccessary thing. I spend 2 hours plus each day going through submissions and post EVERY SINGLE ONE I get and yet, I get PMs and kids telling me "No one reads it. It doesn't belong on the front page in the news." So, this is the last one, and I'm just going to focus on the tours AP is sponsoring.

Wonder what I'm gonna do with all those free hours now.

No one's going to "take it over". Jason's not hiring anymore staff members, we've already got too many on staff and some who don't really even do that much. This was my "baby" whenever I came onto staff, this, tour promos, and street team was the reason why I was hired. Out of all of them, THIS is why I asked Jason to hire me, because I wanted to help SMALLER BANDS get recognized, but if no one cares, and HOURS OF FUCKIN WORK go under appreciated and unnoticed (not just on my part, but the bands who work and actually take time to MAKE the stuff that they're news submissions are about and acutally take the time to submit). No one will be taking this over for me. We're just going to let it die off.
Sorry, but clearly, it's created MANY a problem and kids are infact, STILL BITCHING in the general forum from what this started, so it's leaving AP.

fuck those kids, their just a bunch of annoying crybabies who think that they are better than most of the people on the site because everyone knows who they are. Dont let a bunch of cunts stop you from doing what you set out to do, thats just giving up, which is what they want you to do. I'd rather you keep doing this than let theose cunts win.

This is one of the best things on AP. There isn't a big scene around here, so whenever a band has some news i'll post it on here and they've gotten a few fans. This does a lot to help promote the locals to thousands around the world. Not to mention there are actually some great bands put in with this feature. Don't stop it now.

satanisanerd
08/14/06, 03:41 PM
Please don't stop doing this. It's a great oppotunity for bands to get noticed by people who may have never heard of them. Support the independent rock scene and keep this going. How else are unsigned bands going to get press?

I really don't see what's to complain about it. No one's holding you at gunpoint to read it, just keep scrolling and look for news you'd enjoy to read and if you can't find any get the fuck off the site. If people want bands that they like to get pimped then they can just start their own site and run it however they would like.

I will use J Kauf's word from one of the locked threads and say this is recockulous.

Sort of lame to end a feature on the site that may help some smaller bands. Having threads like this is something i had talked to Jason and Frank about many times. You shouldn't let a few kids control what you do.

People complain when there's a post about Hawthorne Heights or any other band that isn't "in" and I don't see the site completely cutting them out.

You should just do what you want, and let people complain. People will complain about anything, and a feature like this was nice and worth more than giving up on.

Someone got butthurt and just basically said fuck all the smaller, unknown, and unsigned bands. Thats really great. yet another way for smaller bands to get less attention on. Way to kill something so great

How 'bout not letting your ego get so bruised easily, and not worry what kids think ???
Take one for the team and listen to what you feel is right ???

Think of all the bands that probably get told they suck, yet continue to make music, much to the dismay of their haters and detractors. if everyone just quit so easily, there would be no future in music. Everything starts out shitty. Everything has its detractors.

If your gonna let a bunch of snotty ass kids tell you this is pointless, you definitely need a sense of self and let the ego go. Its not about ego's, its about the bands, its about the music.

agreed 100%.

anyway, i appreciate all your hardwork. the gen forum kids were really more complaining of what exactly is the cutoff of a small band vs. a band that gets its own thread on the main page. people do read this, over 800 views, the proof is in the pudding no matter what some kid with a high post count says.

It's been said a dozen times already, but you're cutting this out because of what some General Forum users are saying? Have you looked around the General Forums, well, EVER? People complain every single day about how shitty a band is or someone's hair style or why Band A should break up / get back together. You can't honestly say you're stopping this because people are complaining. I understand this was your "baby", but it seems to me that you want the free time more than appeasing a few douche bags on one section of a website - douche bags that will just focus their complaining on something else within a week anyway.

I always thought this was one feature that was currently setting AP.net apart from other news websites, very few of them take the time to look out for smaller bands.

Of course I respect your choice, but it is quite a shame for those looking for new music that they generally wouldn't find and for bands trying to get their name out to a larger audience.

my only problem was seeing Audio Karate listed as a small band lol...i appreciate the work that is put into the feature but honestly i never really found any bands that were good...i just got useless info about a bunch of struggling bands that i usually didnt enjoy...it's not to say it was a waste of space on the news page...

Mellisa,

I love this feature. It is truly unique and a pleasure to read. Thank you for the effort.

I was not aware of how much work you put into it and I would have expressed my gratitude earlier. I'm very sorry you have had negative feedback, but it shouldn't be interpreted as the majority opinion. As I can see from this thred so far, plenty of people have expressed thier appreciation for this thread and nobody has shown appreciation of the idea of the round-up discontinuing. You should be proud of this amazing feature you have brought not only to this website, but the internet as a whole.

Thanks,

I see why you are pissed I would be to if I spent 2 hours on something that people said was worthless. This thread alone though shows it isnt and you cant let those people in the general forums win. I have never posted anywhere but on the news threads and I dont step into the general forums because it isnt worth the drama. People say shit just to piss you off and you quitting makes them happy. Well anyway thanks for introducing me to some new bands, it was good while it lasted.

You can't honestly say you're stopping this because people are complaining. I understand this was your "baby", but it seems to me that you want the free time more than appeasing a few douche bags on one section of a website - douche bags that will just focus their complaining on something else within a week anyway.

Get Fucked

Sorry, but clearly, it's created MANY a problem and kids are infact, STILL BITCHING in the general forum from what this started, so it's leaving AP.I feel for you but at the same time, are you fucking kidding me? EVERYONE on AP bitches about EVERYTHING, i'm sorry but they're just PM's that do not even have to be read. Why do you need people to toot your horn to make it feel like it's worth it? If you feel so strongly about it you should be getting your gratification simply out of all the work you're doing just to help these bands out. That in itself should be satisfying, you don't need the approval of a bunch of fucking elitists. Also, if you ABSOLUTELY feel you need to stop doing this why not pass it on to someone else? Someone who's willing to put in the hours regardless of the neg. feedback. The people who really care about this "scene" enjoy these posts, trust me. Fuck, i'll do it if you're willing to pass it along. I would love to help every band I can out, and I would but I don't have a means as strong as AP to do so. I don't even care if i'm hired, it's free work either way. Just give me access to the submissions and someone who's already on staff can post what I put together, don't get rid of this .. fuck everyone's bitching.

I'm with everyone. I read this every day that you post it just to see if there are any new bands no one knows about who are worth checking out. That and to see if you post about any of my friends who are in small bands.

Don't fucking stop this Melissa, it's one of the best things about AP. If a couple of people don't want to read it they don't have to. I don't understand it...

Its really quite easy to just skip over the posts you aren't interested in. I do it pages at a time most days. The unsigned band round up is one of the few I don't skip. I think I have read every single one thus far.

You are complaining about wasting a few hours a day because a few people are whining because the actually redeeming *gasp* posts you make get in their way of their Pete Wentz updates. What about the literally thousand upon thousands of bands that spend years just trying to get their name out there.

Give me a break. I know you are a girl, but grow some stones.

first absolutely unsigned, now this?

dude, if Tate gave up on his "baby" projects because people gave him shit, this site wouldn't exist anymore. You can't expect everyone to sing your praises when your community is 70,000 whiny over-privilged suburban kids.

I say you should see it through for another month and see where it stands after that. this thing hasn't had a chance to mature yet

Yesssss. Listen to this dude.

And look how many people have been speaking up. Clearly the Small Band Round-up has a home at AP.
