Hey guys, I am completely new to recording, and I would like to purchase a relatively cheap mic which I could use to record my band's music, as well as use for a school project, which will be mainly spoken word/narration. SO I was wondering if any of you kind gentlemen/women could help me out in choosing one?

I've tried to do a bit of research, and from what I can see, I'd like to get something like the Shure SM-58/SM-48 or perhaps a Behringer C-1/B-1, but I have absolutely no idea which would be best, dynamic, condenser, really cheap, or slightly less cheap haha. HELP PLEASE!!!

You really can't go wrong with the SM-58.

is there a huge difference between the 58 and the 48?

I'm not a mic expert or anything, but looking at both of them, it doesn't look like there's a huge difference. They're both dynamic, cardioid mics. Shure makes good stuff, so I'm sure (pun not intended) either would be good. Looks like the only differences that I seem to be seeing is that the 58 is louder, a bit more durable (the 48 should still be incredibly durable), and has a bit cleaner sound.
