My Super Ex-Girlfriend
7.5/10
Pros:
- Uma Thurman and Luke Wilson have great chemistry
- Professor Bedlam is the best fake supervillain ive ever seen
- Not too long, gets to the point quickly
Cons:
- Feels like an extended SNL sketch
The tag line I read for this movie was: finally a super-hero who likes being one. That's what you get when you see "My Super Ex Girlfriend", a hero who uses her powers to indulge herself as much as save the world (which she does a few times). Gone are the power/responsibility stereotypes of other movies- Thurman's G-Girl is human first, using her powers to get ahead, something Ive been told is a no-no by every comic book/sentai show Ive ever seen. Awkward, needy, and vengeful, she almost lets New York get destroyed because of jealousy. It's this human characteristic that makes the characters believeable. A predictable, by the numbers plot is raised up because of the humor and relation that permeates all the characters in this movie. You could easily see yourself doing this (or wishing you could, which Im sure everyone has desired at some point), and the often irrational actions taken by Jenni/G-Girl are laughable until you notice how many times youve done the same to someone (or been on the receiving end). This is a date movie dressed up to be a comic book fantasy, but a welcome one. You won't find yourself checking your watch or pointing out plot holes, of which there are many, because you'll be laughing too hard to notice or care.
