I'm hoping for either: kings, avalanche, blackhawks in the final from the west.
Or caps, pens, buffalo from east.
Since my poor Leafs aren't in again, I'm just hoping for some excting hockey ( meaning no Devils, Red Wings boring shit).

stranger things have happened. That kid is nasty, i was screaming for the flyers trade for him back when Emery got hurt the first time. At this point, its all about the goaltending. And that's exactly why the Flyers will need some form of a miracle to make it out of the first round. Sure, we have the season series won easily, but Martty Brodeur + Playoffs = Bad Things for Opposing Teams. He's been scary-good as of late, honestly, the only other team i wouldn't want to face besides the devils is the Red Wings.
I really feel like the Caps are going to fall WAY short in the playoffs this year. I'm currently living in DC, and its really tough being around these fair-weathered hockey "fans" (No offense to those of you Caps fans who are familiar with more than Ovie and Semin).
It would be good for the game, no doubt, should they face off against the pens. but dammit am I tired of listening to the incoherent praise of this team from people who have no idea what they're talking about... I just needed to vent a little bit.
Should the Flyers go down, I'm pulling for the Hawks. Good city, Great fans, and a fun team to watch.

not gonna happen.
which is why i didnt put that in my prediction.....
stranger things have happened.
I agree with mostly everything you said. I really don't see the Caps going far this year. Sure they had a great season and props to their organization and team but it's not gonna happen. Remember when the Bruins finished first and Habs went into the playoffs in eighth place? Who won? I'm not guaranteeing a Habs win vs. the Caps but I'm not saying it's impossible hence why I chose them.
As for Brodeur, yes he's been playing great lately plus he didn't do good at the Olympics for Canada so now is his chance to shine. They have the team and unless something drastic happens I don't see them getting eliminated anytime soon.

The Flyers play in a system where they can have an average goalie and still win games. Boucher just needs to make all of the saves he's supposed to and he'll be fine. How do you think Michael Leighton did so well there? Unfortunately, Boucher lets in a lot of bad goals so that really hurts them a lot.

Hahah what? The Flyers beat the Devils 5 of 6 this season. Most of those games were blown leads by the Devs. Say whatever you will about the Flyers finish in the season, but the Devils are going to have a difficult series. I'd be surprised if the Devs took one game of the series.

dont know if any of you guys remember my '15 game test' from last year, but i went back to 2003-04 and checked the records of all playoff teams coming down the final 15 games of the regular season to see whether or the hottest teams have a better shot of advancing in the playoffs. the conclusion was that being 'hot' or cold for that span of 15 games really had minimal impact on playoff performance.
i know that 5 seasons is a relatively small sample size, but i think the main point of the article was that the playoffs are all about matchups.

Regular season hockey is NOT playoff hockey.
Ask the Sharks.
Also I believe the Flyers had Emery in net 3 of those games and Leighton 2 of them. Quite a different team with Bobby Boucher back there. Not saying the Devils matchup well but drawing a conclusion that oh, devils lost 5 of 6 in the regular season=devils will get swept is just asinine.

Has Niemi officially become the starter? I never read that anywhere. I was still under the assumption that Huet is the starter.
they never made an official announcement, but niemi has been playing well for the most part and huet has seen very limited action since the olympics.

Reading into team records is misleading. The last few Pens-Caps games were much like the first 6 games of the series last year. Could have gone either way. As far as the record against the Devils, they certainly played better against them in game 4 and 5 this year. Game 6 was just a total disaster. But it really is almost pointless to look at records over an 82 game span when there are so many changes over the course of a 6 month season.

JVR fell off mid-season after he broke his finger. Hopefully next season he really starts to shine.

I actually drew out my "bracket," haha. I'm half asleep and in a meeting so I misbolded my SC Final prediction, hahaha. Of course, I'm hesitant about the Hawks because I don't have 100% faith in Huet.
Ugh.
At least the Hawks aren't eliminated yet.

So 95% of people in this thread picked either the Sharks or Hawks to make it to the final. Not a single person Picked the Flyers or Habs. No surprise considering they are the 7/8 seeds.
Was the only person who chose the Habs over the Caps. ;-)
