I've never watched a soccer game in my life but I'm interested in it a bit now that Philly has a team.

a lot of people care about the MLS
come into the MLS thread, and talk to us,
there are not enough people to talk about one team in a thread
oh and ive played against Toni Ståhl (former Uconn player) a few times

yeah i can imagine... the only story i've got is Jon O'Brien (former US National player and Ajax) was an alum at my high school, so i played against him/with him in a couple of alumni pick up games. he's not too big, but he's just really talented. very talented.

You're confused
http://www.mls-daily.com/2010/03/2010-mls-attendance.html
Also, how could you even say that when you're in Philadelphia? I don't live there right now, and I know how much press they're getting.

thanks for the article. interesting numbers, but think about it. the Sounders are the only team doing really well. i don't think its quite appropriate to show these stats after just one game... yes the Union game was absolutely packed. but thats because 1) first home game in history. 2) played at Lincoln Financial, which is the Eagles stadium. they haven't opened Chester yet, and its capacity is a little over 20,000.
MLS press/attendance is going up, can't argue that. but to be content with 20,000 fans? i'm not. glad it's growing though.

NBA teams don't even average 20,000
http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance
They had to open more room up in Seattle.
I really don't understand what you're saying.

look, soccer in the united states is not the same as anywhere else in the world. you cannot argue that, and thats merely what i'm saying. and also, soccer in the united states is simply not comparable to basketball. popularity? the levels aren't even close. id like to be able to talk to any random stranger and have them name me 5 MLS players, because odds are, they can name 5 MLB players, NBA players, NFL players (other popular "american" sports). i'd like to see soccer games regularly broadcasted on ESPN.
and you can't compare stadium sizes... look at the relative percentages on the link you just sent me. i'm sure that if the Staples Center in LA was 20,000 seats larger, they'd still sell out Laker games. but i can't say that if the Home Depot Center in LA was 20,000 seats larger, the Galaxy would sell out every game. i just don't think they're comparable.
now, like i said before, there's no doubt popularity increased over the past year. ESPN broadcasts an EPL game every now and then, as they do with MLS games. but i wonder whether this is just an attempt to get soccer fans and non soccer fans alike ready for an ESPN broadcast of the World Cup.

there are like 7 games a week on espn
today bolton v chelsea
tomorrow arsenal v spurs (london derby)
thursday toronto v philly
saturday manchester united v manchester city
sunday Real madrid v Valencia
monday liverpool v west ham
next thursday fc fallas v SSFC
thats just this week and espn360.com has tons of soccer La Liga, dutch eredivisie Bundesliga, the Portuguese League, Serie A, and the Football League in england
i think you should follow the game more before jumping to conclusions

i'll watch the london derby and definitely the manchester derby. and no, this week is just derby week thats why they're playing a lot of soccer.
and sorry i didn't make this clear, i meant MLS games. i'm not trying to argue here or be a sarcastic douche, but i meant regularly broadcasted. and sure, espn 3 has a lot of soccer which is really great. i'm not sure how to say this any other way, but i'm really glad soccer is growing. but i started the thread saying the MLS. and you only named one MLS game in that entire list. thats simply all i mean. there's only so much growth a sport can gain within this country when they're not even showing teams from it. i think there's something to be said for city pride, and i think if they showed more MLS on espn, there would be more growth.
and i follow the game.
