Lookie at what Chris from The Flatliners had to say about the release below:

Cavalcade has finally been unleashed. Internet nerds have already heard it. Maybe you have too. Maybe you heard the fake version we put up on torrent sites with cats meowing and high school bands covering Nirvana. If so, gotcha! All of the above are OK. Its out now and we are unbelievably proud of this record and are happy to have it finally officially released. It was a longer process than usual, but we were able to really take our time with it, and include a bunch of our friends in the process this time around.

I saw Fat Mike in San Francisco the other day and he told me that he thinks people will really like it. That made me smile. Then we swapped stories of feeding people our pee, and he sang me his “Pee Song”. Anyways, our new record is finally out and we’re excited. We hope you are too!

Gyah! I just read the PunkNews review. That, coupled with Fallon's review and the one song I've heard...Sounds like they've stepped up their game in a big way. Can't wait to listen tonight!

...Unfortunately, I'll be doing so sans album artwork as I neglected to pre-order and Newbury Comics didn't have a copy. Oh well. I can wait for that. :-(

Interesting interview at PunkNews! (http://www.punknews.org/article/37884) It's refreshing to see a down-to-earth interview from a guy in a "buzz" band. The dude seems genuinely stoked about playing music, the opportunities they've had, etc.

new 7" (http://www.fatwreck.com/record/detail/243) out sept. 28th!

THE FLATLINERS are set to release Monumental on September 28th, a three song release only available on vinyl and digitally. Two tracks are exclusive to the release and “Monumental” is off their latest full length titled Cavalcade

------

Remember when bands used to release “singles” on 7” pieces of wax? They’d also come with B-sides from their records on them. Remember? Well since we just recently got “vinyl records” in snowy Canada, we don’t remember either…

Alas! This coming September we bring you the ‘Monumental’ single! (Applause) And of course, the lovely folks at Fat Wreck Chords are (man)handling the release. The A side will be the title track (“Monumental”) from our latest album Cavalcade, while the B-side boasts 2 songs picked up and dusted off from the Cavalcade cutting room floor that are just far too sweet to rob from you folks. And on top of all that, our very talented friend and delicious food enthusiast Richard Minino (AKA Horsebites) has whipped up some really awesome artwork for it. So get stoked, cause we’re already there.
Cheers,
Chris

I'm pretty sure this record is even underrated over at the 'Org! Not only was it one of my Top Five favorite albums of 2010, it's also tied with the Wonder Years for the #1 biggest surprise of an album. I remember listening to The Great Awake and thinking: "This is pretty okay, but there's no way this band will ever release anything worth getting super, super stoked about."

Boy, was I wrong. It's passionate, it's catchy, it's gritty yet polished, rough yet melodic, and brash yet -- It's a perfect fucking punk rock record! And it's played with heart.

They pretty much hit the nail on the head with their description of that record too! Are any of those other bands worth looking into?

And since making that last post? I decided to give The Great Awake a spin for the first time in a long-ass while. Basically, Cavalcade is everything about that album amped up to 11 in greatness. Everything is improved! The anthems are more anthemic, the ragers are more raging...

Oh, and I definitely don't recall there being such an obvious A.W.S. influence in some of the guitarwork on that record. Haha.

Since there's all sorts of activity goin' on in this thread tonight (kind of)...

Saw them open for the Bosstones last night here in Boston. Thanks to the shit weather we got hit with, their bass player couldn't make it up from Florida so they wound up getting the bassist from Big D to fill in. Of course, he wasn't able to learn ALL of their songs which led to a shorter-than-expected set but as a result? Their second to last song?

An electric-but-solo version of "Count Your Bruises." So good!

Not really, I think you're already familiar with the good ones on that list. Burning Love is OK, but I'd rather see that spot go to Carpenter or someone.

Yeah, it's pretty amazing how much they've improved. But at the same time it isn't because they started that band super young. I've seen them around here at shows constantly since 2006 and I saw them play their best shows by far in 2010.

I'm honestly fairly new to them as far as live shows goes, but I've never not been impressed! I've seen them at the Fest twice, Warped Tour twice, and on Monday night opening for the Bosstones. I've had atrocious luck whenever they've rolled through Massachusetts as part of a smaller bill, headlining, etc. I've always had to not go due to something coming up. :-(

But Monday was a true testament to how far they've come, I would imagine. Opening for the Bosstones or the Murphy's in Boston is no easy feat. You're up against a crowd of people yelling "MIGHTY-MIGHTY! BOSS-TONES!" between each song simply because you aren't an old school Boston hardcore band or the Bosstones. It bums me out, but it's true--A Wilhelm Scream got booed for being a "screamo" band by some kids when they opened for the Murphy's a few years ago...

But the Flatliners killed it! Sans their own bass player, even. It was an extremely solid set.

Yup. I was shocked--but looking at LastFM? That's the album I've listened to the fifth most this year (behind the Menzingers, the Dopamines, the Wonder Years, and Heartsounds).

Huge. Without a doubt in my top 10 records of the year. I think having recorded the record in two different parts/times a few months apart might have even helped it.

I saw them play 4 times this year. Once on their Canadian headliner with Broadway Calls, opening for the Bosstones in Buffalo, opening for Against Me!, and another headliner in Hamilton two weeks ago. The band has grown so damn much and are some of the most solid dudes you could ever meet.

I love how much exposure they've gained from the last record to this one, as evidenced by this thread. It's such a great album.

Do you think the recent exposure that this album (and to a degree their last one) has given them will interest major labels? I hope they don't go the major label route. It's not the whole "Sell outs! You're not real punx!" thing, but that majors are all about record sales, and are known to treat their bands like shit. I don't want that for them.

I hope so.

Also, being a Canadian band, they have the whole punk rock market up there too. They've really made a name for themselves in the US, Europe, etc with the last two albums, but i think people forget that they're very well loved in Canada, and they'll continue to get big crowds there, while also rising in popularity in the punk rock scene elsewhere.

I don't know that they're necessarily "Fat Wreck for life" like the sir above me said, but I definitely don't see them going the major label route. They aren't quite what the majors are looking for. However, if they started to smoke a ton of weed and amp up the reggae in their sound? It might happen. Dear God, I hope they never do that...

Cobra Skulls, on the other hand, may have a shot if they keep going more "indie/straight-up rock" as they seem to be. But that'll take a few records, an amped up live show, and the right amount of crossover with their fanbase. Shrug.

That being said - I could see the Flatliners sticking around on Fat for quite some time. Fattie seems to have taken more of an interest in them and Cobra Skulls than most of their other recent signings (i.e., spending time in the studio with them, helping with production/recording) so I'm guessing the relationship is really good.

Yeah, you make good points. I don't really see the Flatliners adopting a more straight-up rock sound. Nor upping the reggae :-d 'He Was A Jazzman', while very good, was enough for the one album :-d

Cobra Skulls i could see though... :-d Though i predict they'll go the whole Against Me! major label route. An album or two, the first of which will get mainstream magazine accolades, the second not so much, then they'll get dumped.... then sign to Epitaph :-d

Yeah man. I added a lot of up and coming bands before they got radio play on big stations in Canada (Mumford and Sons-Little Lion Man, Broken Bells-The High Road, Neon Trees-Animal, The Dirty Heads-Lay Me Down, etc.) as well as others that just fit our format. Here's how I know I really like an album: I'm still playing it at roughly the same frequency I was playing it at months ago, and by "frequency," I mean "heavy rotation." I'm the type of listener that gets worn out on things easily, and when something sticks with me for this long, I know it'll probably end up somewhere on my all time favorites.

Cavalcade is one such album.

Funny this gets bumped right after I got done listening to it.

Haha sweet, I'm not the only one still spinning this album.

Also, does anyone think Cresswell kind of looks like Macaulay Culkin? Might just be me.

I still listen to this thing like a motherfucker. Haha. And I definitely think he resembles Culkin. It trips me up how young everybody in that band looks...I'm fuckin' old. Haha.

Seriously. But that just makes me happy for how much good music we'll get from them in the future haha.

Likewise. I'm curious to see where they go next -- I'm surprised at how much they've grown between records. The leap from The Great Awake to Cavalcade was huge. I'm admittedly a bit disappointed that it didn't catch on the way Mute Print and Ruiner did for A Wilhelm Scream, though.

That's the kind of record it was for me. A game changer in terms of how much I loved and connected to the band.

I should really go back and listen to their older stuff more. I love "This Respirator" but other than that I'm not as familiar with the rest of their discography. It'll be interesting to see how they've grown since yeah, Cavalcade was definitely huge.

Totes. Their first album was definitely straight-up, aggressive ska-punk. Their first Fat Wreck release saw most of the ska drop off their sound and become a "gritty punk rock" band--with a few ska songs thrown in for good measure--but it lacked the OOMPH that Cavalcade has.

Anyone pick up Count Your Bruises yet? How are the two unreleased songs?

Bought it on iTunes but haven't listened yet. I did, however, purchase tickets to see them when they hit Boston with the Menzingers and Broadway Calls! :-d

Oooh, nice. I need to buy it, but I'm broke until tomorrow...how is this single the only release this week to not end up on it-leaked?

BUMP! Simply because I'll be seeing them tomorrow with the Menzingers and Broadway Calls. Pretty stoked!
