The mostly acoustic musical endeavor of Justin Cerne/stupidityonparad. It's pretty good and has a lot of potential. Check out the free EP up for download.

I dig "Everything's Fine". I'd love to hear what your next EP would sound like if you live mic'd your acoustic.

i have a full album's worth of stuff, just when i record again, i really want to make it full-band compatible.
cshadows2887
04/13/10, 11:03 PM
Word. I'd be very interested to hear it. But yeah, I'm going to keep preaching live-miked acoustics. Or would you go all electric guitars when you went full band?
stupidtyonparad
04/13/10, 11:04 PM
oh no absolutely not. a song like junkyard or in the ground would absolutely stay acoustic. other songs, like lets be frank and 29 palms are made for a louder sound though

04/13/10, 11:05 PM

there was the first next week's weather live siting in 3 years friday night at a bar in columbus, ohio. very spur of the moment thing

How'd that go down? Plan on playing more shows in the near future?
stupidtyonparad
04/25/10, 07:34 PM
it was spontaneous, i only played two songs, both covers. i was really intoxicated too.
but yeah, i signed up to play a "festival" of sorts this summer

quick update:
-i wrote what will be the closer to my album last night. it's completely different than any of the other songs that will appear on it, and i'm pretty excited about it.
-i plan to hopefully, after i repair my mixing board, try and record a full-length towards the 2nd half of summer. it will be full band, either with a friend sitting in on drums or me manning the kit myself.
-most of the tracks from the holiday sessions will appear on it, but in re-recorded forms. it's looking to be 13-14 songs as of now
-the holiday sessions will see a physical release in the next month. will be diy with different liner notes
-i'm playing the buffalo infringement festival in july and may be playing a show with big d in the fall (fingers REALLY crossed on that one)
thanks!
justin.

Post a link to the facebook and I'll put it in the OP.
What did you use to record the EP on?
stupidtyonparad
06/29/10, 08:48 PM
ha i don't know what the link is...just search "next week's weather"
i recorded it using cubase and a mixing board that i have sense broke.
i gotta fix it so i can record my new stuff

I haven't posted in this thread yet? Lame.
I was going to review the Holiday Sessions forever ago, but The Decomposed Blog kind of fizzled out amidst school, etc. I'll probably write something up for either that EP or, if I don't get to it soon enough, the full-length album eventually, though. I'm hoping to get back into the groove of writing again, probably for my own personal blog for the time being. This thread isn't about me, though, lol. Justin, keep up the good work, yo.
stupidtyonparad
06/29/10, 09:07 PM
ha, a full-length is going to be about as reliable and on-schedule as brand new's updates between albums.
but i'm moving in with a drummer, so that's a step in the right direction, just gotta fix my recording equipment

so i'm headlining a show at an art gallery in a few weeks.
what songs do you all recommend i play?
Ari Christos
07/10/10, 07:32 PM
Let's Be Frank and Broken Legs w/ a Brand New cover thrown in somewhere for good measure
stupidtyonparad
07/10/10, 07:43 PM
i doubt i'll play broken legs, that'd be tough for me to manage. i could try and figure something out, but i don't know
i actually practiced my own songs for the first time in months, and the set i came up with today was:
mary (noah and the whale cover)
content right here (new song)
frank
29 palms
in the ground
play crack the sky (brand new cover)
everything's fine
the only one (manchester orchestra cover)
i think i'm only playing 40 minutes, so that'd be perfect. all that could change though, except for "mary," i love that song to death.
Ari Christos
07/10/10, 07:50 PM
Don't leave out Frank, that track rocks so much shit. Got a recording of that new song?

Your voice is getting better. Wow this Mary song is fucking pretty. Oh wait the chords just kicked in. Still pretty haha
stupidtyonparad
07/19/10, 06:53 PM
ha the song "mary" on record is all really slow like that, but when they were first starting out, they used to play the 2nd verse like that, and it's more fun to play that way
stupidtyonparad
07/19/10, 07:26 PM
so ugh...thoughts on the new song? besides how i trip over the lyrics cause i don't have them memorized?
Ari Christos
07/19/10, 07:31 PM
I dig it. The quick chord progressions kept my interest. I can see it being translated into a loud, upbeat, rock song, akin to MO's The Only One or something like that. It's a fun track.
Honestly - I like your voice, I really do, but I think you gotta work with diversifying it a little. The tone that you sang in for all of The Holiday Sessions EP was perfect for the sound those songs took on, but it kinda stayed the same on Content and it's a sizable departure from those tracks.
stupidtyonparad
07/19/10, 07:35 PM
yeah, well. that song isn't meant to be acoustic, and i felt awkward playing it in the setting i did. i'm gonna try and snatch some live videos, and that should be different with my whole setup (hopefully).

The new stuff is great.
Sailor song is a good tune, though I feel the vocal melody doesn't quite seem to fit the music as well. The songs in general are obviously demo quality, and the mixing is a bit messy.
That said, the vocals are a lot better on this one. I especially liked the screaming, it sounded great. Content is a great tune, and besides some of the mixing volume, I don't really have any problems with it. The vocals are great and the music is great, the song sounds like it's a much higher quality than the others on the EP when it comes to recording. My only issue is that the guitar solo is like ten times louder than everything else in the song, lol.
Anyway, all-around, it's very good. A lot stronger and more confident than The Holiday Sessions. Not sure you've reached your full potential yet, but this is definitely a huge step in the right direction.

yeah there were some things i wanted to go back and adjust the levels on, and cut and paste a few things on the pseudo sailor song.
the vocal levels on that song and the guitar solos on content are definitely a little too loud, i wanted the sailor song vocals to be more subdued, unfortunately i was in a rush to get things done before i moved.
one day when i have some time i might go back and fix everything a bit, i wish the production was more on par with the holiday sessions. but honestly, i'm very proud of all 4 (eh, 5) songs and that's not something i could say about the holiday sessions

Haha. We don't really get along per se, and never really have. But I wouldn't let something like that weigh in on my opinion of his music. The truth is, I have a lot of respect for Justin as a musician. Not only is he genuinely good at it, but he serves as a great source of inspiration for me. The way I go about making music seems similar to the way he does, and we both seem to have similar troubles (though Justin's already a far better singer than I'll ever be.) So I completely support him as a musician, even if I don't get along with him on a personal level.

Not currently. I was working on a set of songs and I recorded a few demos, but they're mostly for personal use later on (I use a lot of placeholders, looped recordings etc.) But odds are, I'm actually going to move on past that first set and work on something else. I might post some demos and lyrics if I do that.
i'd really like to hear/read your stuff. can you at least post some lyrics?

Thanks. I might throw some up on the lyrics forum sometime soon.
The Weezer covers are the only thing I've listened to so far cos I haven't really had the time. I liked them but you picked like my least favourite Pinkerton songs
I liked the covers. I haven't heard much at all from Pinkerton so I probably haven't heard the originals, lol.

I did like them though, them being my least favourite Pinkerton songs isn't really a bad thing. Pinkerton is my number 2 album so I love every second of it

the blue album and pinkerton are all you ever need to hear from weezer to be completely satisfied.
and let me know when you post those lyrics. i'm excited.

well those are the 2 i relate to the most, and they're also 2 of the least popular. i mean i love across the sea, the good life, and el scorcho, but i didn't wanna do the stereotypical 'cover an old weezer song' thing

just throwing this post up cause a lot of people in the brand new thread are subscribed to this, and apparently they all think i'm "banned"
nah, i just can't post in the brand new thread. but the argument you all had with the big boss man today was fun to read. but circa, drew's review of daisy was awful. he couldn't even distinguish the bass from the guitar in "you stole"
see everyone in the next thread or in the weezer threads

I dunno how Circa didn't get banned when I did. Christ, what a dick (not Circa)

Have A Nice Life has the potential to be a brilliant, epic album closer. I'm talking Colly Strings good

i honestly planned on making my first full length....if it ever comes to fruition....to be a kind of chronicling of the past few years of my life up to this past summer (when i wrote "content") having "have a nice life" be the 2nd last track and "content" be the closer
and i appreciate the colly strings comparison cause i definitely had that song in mind when i wrote it

i'd record all the parts except drums, my roommate has said he'd be interested and he's a gnarly drummer. i'm a couple songs short of where i want to be, but i'll try and have regular updates come january or so when i start working on it

Yeah, take your time, play some video games here and there, and stop updating us until you have an album a few years later. ;-)
Roughly what sound will you be going for?
stupidtyonparad
11/24/11, 12:59 PM
a sound that's going to be awesome. duh.
um, i'm going to take a lot of the tracks i currently have and re-do them in a larger rock sound, keep some acoustic stuff. i plan on having the opening and closing songs be really poppy and the middle being a lot of depressing bullshit haha
tentative track list as of right now:
1. sunset bay
2. let's be frank
3. 29 palms
4. this song http://www.facebook.com/notes/next-weeks-weather/new-lyrics/261088430575138
5. skip this track
6. ????
7. instrumental in open c
8. a pseudo sailor's song
9. in the ground
10. broken legs via baseball bats or everything's fine or a new loud song
11. have a nice life
12. content
this is all subject to change. i'm going to take all the songs i have and show them to my roommate providing he does help out, and decide which ones he likes/doesn't like

The demos include a rough cover of "Sink," right?
Ha, but honestly, I'm not sure yet if I want to listen to new material before you have a whole finished album. I probably will listen, but part of me wants to forget your old stuff, ignore these demos, and just dive into the album when it's ready.

i guess the one song "part of the plan" kind of sounds like "sink" mixed with "another bag of bones," but i'd like to think its about 5x as intelligent as "sink" ....but probably not as intelligent as bag'o'bones....
