It was just announced that Scorsese will film The Invention of Hugo Cabaret in 3D. What do you think about this?

in my opinion, anything that isnt trying to go for pure special effects should stay away from 3d (for now at least), but i guess you can choose to see the movie without 3d so does it really matter?

I'll quote Roger Ebert:
If Scorsese ever makes a movie in 3-D, that's when we'll know movies as we have known them are dead.
That said, source mtl couldn't be better and it's fucking Scorsese. I'll see it no matter what. And Chloe is going to be a huge, huge star.

Is it cool to hate 3D?
I'm kind of in the middle of the second and third options.

I like 3-D in some instances, but I like my movies more about what's going on with the story and characters, not so much how the visuals pop out. I like he can pull it off, but I'd rather not see much of anything in 3-D. I enjoyed Avatar, but I think that was the exception and not the rule.

I think Scorcese has too much respect for film to get all gimmicky with the special effects and 3d, but I could be wrong

I'm somewhat ecstatic that, at the time of this post, no one has voted for the 'Great' option.

If the camera move is going to be a 3D effect, it has to be for dramatic purposes – not just throwing spears at the audience.
I'll reserve judgement until I see what a director like Scorsese can do with 3D.

I remember you Tweeting this; was that before or after it was announced he was doing a 3D movie? I'd like to see what he thinks now that's it's official.

I don't see the big deal about 3D movies.

The thing I hate most about 3D is the fact that the movie industry so forcefully shoves it on the audience whether they like it or not. I literally can't think of a single person I know who prefers it to regular filmmaking. But the industry controls the medium and so they will continue to saturate the market with it, regardless of any negative feedback, until the public just becomes tired of complaining and accepts it.

3D is ridiculous.
