I have only heard the new album once. Just finished it. And must say it's in my top 5 of this year. And normally hate Rise bands. But these guys are different. If there is another thread direct me to it. Discuss this great band. Go!

Yeah, that's a great one. For me it's either Goodbye, Blue Monday or Composing a Commercial Product.

Composing a Commercial Product is amazing. Those others are too. I'm so glad that I was suggested this band. Fucking amazing. I like the lyrical themes a lot. What I don't like is the sticker on the CD says for fans of Circa and Radiohead. Sound nothing like Radiohead haha

Yeah, I like how blunt and honest their lyrics are. I bought it on iTunes so I didn't see the sticker. I guess if a band is experimental, they are automatically similar to Radiohead, haha.

The lyrics sum up most of my feelings on religion so it hit me perfectly. The bluntness and honesty you speak of are refreshing as hell in this scene. And yeah I guess experimental does mean Radiohead. That is retarded haha

pmtoday(in current proper case) is the greatest band to ever go from playing blink 182 knock-offs to be doing current music. I've been following them for 6 years, they've come pretty far with almost a singular influence (blink). This newest album shows that they're maturing but not yet focused.

I bought the album a few days ago. Sounds great. I know every song writer has different thoughts and feelings, but the lyrics are so pessimistic IMO. It's still good though. They remind me a lot of Circa Survive's new stuff.

This band definitely surprised me when I first heard them. The name alone gives me the impression it's going to sound stale, but I was dead wrong, and I'm glad too, because I really dig these guys. Definitely going to give my other 2010 albums a run for their money in the final AOTY showdown.

It's not anti-religion...It's actually a concept album telling you the life story of its protagonist. It's more about society in general ... about mindless activities that everyone goes through and how we just "eat, work, sleep, repeat". We have lost touch with real things and are very apathetic...The protagonist becomes very bitter and pessimistic upon realization that hopes and dreams are not as magical as he once thought. It's very interesting.

That's really interesting. I didn't know that. My personal relation to it would be somewhat about religion but I definitely took those other things from it too. I didn't know it was a concept record. That makes it even better

yeah, i don't really care for the name, but it was misleading i suppose. i don't know... i've been keeping a list on my computer of cd's for this year so far. it's going to be really hard for me to choose.

this new album is infinitely better.

as for favorite song, Goodbye Blue Monday easily takes the top slot. that song is like the best fusing of prog-post-hardcore and pop punk i've ever heard.

as for Circa Survive though, i don't think the two are comparable at all. it's naive to say they're similar.

i do most of my music collecting at night when im at home, and listen during the day at work (i get to wear headphones 8 hours a day) so it's nice to be able to get a full days listening in to fully gather my true thoughts on an album. i also send emails to my personal email from my work email compiling smaller lists and reviews/notes/ratings to gather in a big file on my computer at home. either way the music is always what makes it hard, not organizational skills

i guess i just don't see the resemblance. sure they both have proggish tendencies and high vocals, but there are far too many bands between the two that are much more similar, so i don't even make that connection. when i think circa survive i think H

They both have proggy tendencies and high vocals but I don't really think of Circa when I listen to them. There's far too many similar bands that bridge the gap. When I think Circa I think Harvard, YouInSeries, Another Day Late, etc... when I think PMToday I think Before Today, a little Closure In Moscow, a little Daphne Loves Derby even, with the string synth sounds and the almost sappy, lighter arrangements.

I still really like the older album, but they don't sound much alike. It's more like the new song "Sad World," but a lot poppier with a lot more use of high vocals

Damn. I read the review here at AP that it was a concept album, but I guess the reviewer and I was wrong. Also I was reminded of a book called "Culture Jam" while I listened to this CD because they had very similar themes

I feel ya on that. They are not clones by any means I just think them and Circa are slightly similar. But I definitely hear some Closure In Moscow in there, even though I don't like that band. But all in all this record rules

im a huge closure in moscow fan, imo theyre the best musicians that somehow ended in a shitty scene. anyways, just heard "in media res" a couple of times and its epic stuff, im really digging this one. they have some of the same prog and high pitched vocals CiM has, if you guys liked in media res, check out "first temple" or their epic albumette "the penance and the patience" (wich blows any other post hardcore / progressive effort out of the water)
loving goodbye, blue monday (haha the intro is one of the best hooks ever) and people are machines.
