I haven't posted anything here since the great "Treefall" of yesteryear. I haven't really written anything close to that since then since the band broke up and I lost a lot of my motivation... but this is one of the songs I wrote as I was getting back on my feet. Not anywhere near as complete as Treefall, but yeah, the imagery has been used a billion times before (as with pretty much all themes) but hopefully this presents a bit of a different perspective of the ocean/ship/drowning theme.
The Bellowing
I heard your call
Like the echo of the ocean
When we were young
We sailed with such devotion;
We had faith
That butterflies were buoyancy.
Well look at me,
Here now, I'm pacing on the deck.
Could it be?
That we aren't the shipwreck.
I once heard
That our vessel fell from grace.
On, and on, and on.
The lighthouse, the sea salt, the foghorns.
On, and on, and on.
Emptying slowly since we've been born.
I saw the face of the lover as
I fell through the water,
And I've never felt better
Oh, I'd die to be wetter.
The Bellowing
