Chiodos' breakdowns may not be awesomely complex, but that doesn't downplay the fact that they are good to the ears...

That video is priceless, haha.
That breakdown is really good, too.
Other good breakdowns?
Seneca has really good breakdowns. (Sending Home Photos of Myself, And When the Time Goes, Everything is a Memory)
And that Vanna song, "A Dead Language for a Dying Lady". The song itself is decent, and the breakdown, while only alright when it comes to breakdowns, comes in so well. Soft music and clean singing, and then you hear those little "juns" in the background of all of it, and then BAM!
Lately my favorite has been the one in She Is a New Flavor of Lickerish by Flesh and Blood Robot... about a minute or so into the song.

Just because Chiodos isn't a hardcore/metalcore band or whatever doesn't mean their breakdowns have to suck. That is, actually, a really good breakdown. Not the best ever or anything, but it's still really good.

Chiodos' breakdowns may not be awesomely complex, but that doesn't downplay the fact that they are good to the ears...
And omfg, Memphis Will Be Laid to Waste--that breakdown is skeet skeet good.
When they played in Toledo the one dude [think he was the guitarist] was playing hanging upside down for that entire song.
The video sucks, just go to the 4:15ish point.

All the girls out there are totally lying when they tell you that size does not matter. Want proof?
I am telling you this because it is the honest truth, look I should know, they say that it is all in the way you use it, not how big it is, well I got news for you all, that is pure lies.
I know from personal experience, I will tell you about a secret that Joey has made me promise to never ever tell anyone, but since he has not called me in three weeks after standing me up, I am going to break the promise and tell you how he went from having a tiny wang and in 4 months he is now about nine inches and get this, it is still getting bigger. He has been secretly taking grow pills from this site, copy and paste the address into your browser to see them. BUSMR.COM
I found out when I was at his house, three fridays ago, we were getting ready to go to the mall, so while he was in the shower, I went in his room, sneeked under his bed and found a box with pill bottles in it, there was like 9 full bottles and 4 empty ones, all ordered from BUSMR.COM I was laughing at first but then when he came in the room and caught me looking at them, he freaked out and made me sware to not ever tell anyone about them, especially girls from school or work that he has been dating for the past while, now that I think of it, he has been rather busy with all the popular girls around here, when just last year he was the shyest when it came to girls.
I just never put two and two together until he explained it all to me, I did see his prick and yes, it is huge, pronostar huge, the thickest and longest one I ever seen.
I know this sounds really shallow, but I am considering ordering 6 bottles from the website at BUSMR.COM for you know who.. he does not have a AP.net account, so he is not gonna see this. They guarentee that the pills will work on any man, or they give you your money back, living proof that they do work on any guy, seeing is believing.

Yeah, woo fucking hoo, the same shit every other metal band does. It's like Choruses in Pop music. Every shitty metal[core] band out there needs a fucking break down.
Besides, most metal is shit anyways, or it has become shit. So it's nothing against breakdowns. It's something against all those little hipster kids that rave and rant about them and then join bands and have one in every fucking song.
Metal is like riding a roller coaster OVER AND FUCKING OVER again. Pretty soon you get sick of riding the same fucking ride. Pretty soon I get sick of hearing the same fucking shit from a once acceptable music scene.

Hey, I'm a senior in high school and I have tight pants on.
Breakdowns are occasionally fun on an album, but it's more of a live thing because just about every band reuses the same breakdown so often that it gets pathetic.
Take for example, Emmure, who have the same breakdown compromise 70% of their songs, and use it on the entire album. It's sooooooooo bad.

Well at least I Killed the Prom Queen threw in some soloing and some of the singing was catchy, so it wasn't that repetitive compared to the generic metalcore / hardcore formula a lot of bands follow nowadays.
Honestly, why would I want to sit and listen to a 30 minute breakdown. It works live, but the only thing worthy of the album is it allows bands to get out and tour more.

I'm going to have to agree. Graf Orlock has some of the sickest breakdowns i've heard. They aren't generic, like a lot of hardcore breakdowns, which seem like they are only in songs because it's the 'standard'. I've never seen Graf Orlock live, but the recordings capture the chaos better than most bands.

i wouldn't really call Hassan I Sabbah emo violence, them and Neil Perry, Usurp Synapse, and Jeromes Dream treaded a fine line on Emo Violence, but in the end i think their sound was to metal influenced to come out as emo violence
the finest violence band though would have to be Palatka, with In/Humanity and End of the Century Party coming close second
In/humanity has a few tracks that rival palatka's, but they take a really steep dive in quality after that. Forcefedglass is pretty good too.

Metalcoreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeee
how do you know about them?
From when I was getting into emo they came up a bunch as one of the best bands. I see that you are indeed a scene kid, judging from your pic and fav bands. (CTTS is a new one tho, they do deserve better recognition, I can't wait for that new album). Its just rare for people to have heard of or listened to bands like pg. 99, as they take some serious accessibility adjustment.
What docs have you heard? All their stuff is great, in different ways.
Doc#1 for lo-fi, simple, heavy music, #5 for being heavy, #7 for its spooky at the graveyard feeling, #8 for just being a total classic, #9 for being creepy, and #12 for being the most frightening thing i've ever heard.
HonnieBononnie
04/26/07, 12:42 PM
I like #13 cause it's with circle takes square, and well that pretty much speaks for it's slef, two amazing bands, #8 is pretty dark, and filled with emotion but I like it because it's almost like they're not trying to show off with their playing skills, they're just a bunch of guys making music, which really is the true meaning of music, and some bands forget that I think. I like #7 for pretty much the same reason, there are no really complicated riffs or anything and it sounds kind of crunchy, I guess that's a good word, and the drums pretty much dominate the whole thing, and I like drums so yea. #5 is intense and short, I wish it were a bit longer but it's still probably one of their best albums in my opinion.
I have one of the 150 pink vinyls of #2 that is probably my most prized possesions.
and I would like very much if you didn't call me a "scene kid" that's very insulting to me. I think scene kids are some of the most stuck-up ignorant people ever, and I don't like being in that category, that's for people who use music as a fashion statement, not for just liking music, they're the kids you see filling their ipods with music from bands whose name they found on a shirt at "hot topic" and that is NOT me at all. Perception is reality, I know this but just because my picture looks like a "scene kid" that means nothing. Don't let looks decieve you
Alright, I'll try not to say anything of the sort again. I mostly made the comment because of indexfor...'s comment. I wasn't really meaning it to be an insult so much as an observation. And perception is reality, thats one of my favorite things to say to people, but its also one of those statements thats only true if you don't realize it.
But yes, I agree with you on all counts of the docs. #12 and #1 are some of my favorites, if you haven't heard them. (#1 is actually on #14 as the demo tracks, i believe). Its readily apparent you aren't a scene kid by this point as you have heard more than their most famous #8 album, and even own one of the rarest albums.
HonnieBononnie
