The Souljazz Orchestra hail from Canada & create an afrobeat fusion sound, which like most good afrobeat, combines jazz, funk, blues, reggae, classical, South American percussion, & many strains of African music.
These guys released a new album this year, titled Rising Sun, which I've been spinning a lot lately. I think they're finally growing on me... as for years I've struggled to listen to any afrobeat outside of Fela Kuti (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=515881) & his various band members projects. But these guys are creating something great, & a hint of magic is starting to come through. I would love to see them in a live setting.
I would suggest these guys to pretty much anyone here. While they may not be the usual jam you would check out, they are very accessible, & could possibly surprise a lot of people here. Perhaps they will open up a whole new musical path in which to venture down.
