it basically an fps offshoot of fvii after what happens in midgar revolving around vincent's life. my brother has the japanese version and it didn't look very good to me game play wise.

Damn, I just watched a few gameplay clips and it looks really disappointing (the pre-rendered scenes look really, really good, but that's not really that important). Whatever though, the original is amazing and the new ones for the PS3 look like they'll be amazing too, so hopefully the PS3 just doesn't flop the way it's expected to.

Not that they're really worrying about it right now...I think the PS3 will sell fine regardless of price-point...but that would just be like OMGZ AZNS AND AMERICANS GOING CARAZAY!

It will never happen. Square are busy creating new FF games to worry about remaking probably their best selling game. They remade the opening credits using PS3 technology I believe, but that was just to prove that they could/the power of the PS3.

I'm not shocked that this game has gotten bad reviews either. Any offshoot of a game as legendary as FFVII was destined to be damned by critics and fans everywhere.

I wouldn't buy a PS3 for updated graphics on FFVII, especially when it was pretty well flawless earlier. New graphics wouldn't do much, although I'm lying right now sort of...if it came out I'd probably freak out and buy it. No less, Dirge of Cerebus is supposed to be terrible.

Hey! Advent Children was reviewed well and many people liked it a lot. That is an offshoot of the game...it may not have had the best plot ever but holy shit it was fun to watch at points.

but back on topic, i actually like the new game. sure its a different experience, not a traditional RPG but i found it fun nonetheless. the story is pretty...."ehhh" and the only decent thing about that was his history with hojo and lucrecia. and at the end of the game in the secret ending theres another uber-villian revealed named G (for Genesis) who is supposed to be a clone of sephy. or even stronger. and his story will be told on Crisis Core, which will be out on the PSP. but like i said, its a fun game but dont expect anything extraordinary.

When I said something about the PS3 games, I wasn't referring to a FFVII remake; I know that's not going to happen (and actually, I'm glad it's not because it would be a waste of money recreating an already great game). I was talking about the next games in the series.

And as for the new FFVII game, I was talking about Dirge Of Cerberus. Not sure how the topic moved on to that remade-intro-from-FFVII-tech demo, but that wasn't what I was talking about in the least.

It would be fun, I'll admit, and visually, it would be really impressive.

All in all, though, the whole thing just wouldn't be worth it.
Sucks though for the next-gen kids who didn't get to experience VII, VIII and IX for PS1.

Agreed. My main problem with this game so far is that there are too many cutscenes. It goes from gameplay to scene, back to gameplay then cutscene and so on. Though this isn't the first Square game to have this problem(The Bouncer).

actually, i think me and scott both put these rumors to rest in the last FFVII thread. the FFVII vs FFVIII thread. EGM is one of the worst sources to cite rumors from. and im pretty sure the best buy thing has been resolved. as soon as square-enix found about that they had best buy take it down.

crisis core is about zach, zach's mentor (the orignal owner of the buster sword), that G guy i mentioned, sephiroth, cloud, and how they all tied in together.

I think the whole purpose of Dirge of Cerebrus is to hold us off until FFXII. To be quite honest I think FFXII is the closest thing to a Vagrant Story sequel(not storywise, in terms of battle system).

VAGRANT STORY, now that was a game with some amazing elements in my opinion. ashley riot was an awesome character, I always felt like that game was like square's medieval MGS, not necessarily because of the game play but just the overall atmosphere of the game

Agreed. There were soo many plot twists in that game. I think Square dropped the ball by not making a sequel.

it was a fun game. i had it for about a year on my PS2. like most MMORPG's youve gotta have lots of time. i still prefer world of warcraft to it though. but seriously, when i played the demo of XII i was like holy crap this is just like XI! which made me want to play it again lol. its a nice change in the normal turn based battles that most of the FF's had. its still got the same 2 features though, active or wait. ill probably choose active, because its more realistic in that kind of battle setting.
