Last year I only had to buy a couple course packets cause i borrowed all my text books. This year looks bad though..im gonna guess like 400 or something.

fall semester of '05 was $500. then spring semester '06 was $600. and now this fall semester they're about $450. all of these are at 17 credits per semester.

Wait until the class starts and you get a syllabus, look it over and see if the book is even necessary, then buy it on eBay. Re-sell on eBay when done with the class. Enjoy not spending a ton for books.

My college was pretty much like high school in the regard that we got out books at the beginning of the semester and returned them at the end. If we wanted to keep them we could, but then they'd charge us.

yes, it was similar for me last year. last year i was technically still a high school student, so the county paid for my books and then i had to return after each semester. but now i have to "buy" them, but i have a scholarship that pays for them up to $600 per semester.

I prefer it that way because I know I'll want some of the books once I get into the work place so I can refer to them, but I'm not going to need books for classes like sociology or philosophy and what not. I figure that I can buy the books I really need when I actually have the money to spend.

So far I'm at $380 with one class left to buy for. I hate it when I am paying for my books and I am wicked pissed at the price and the old lady at the cash register says something you'd expect you're grandma to say, I think it's a ploy to make us not feel so pissed about it until we're out of the store.

I spoke too soon. After returning my $92 Law book and $40 Religion book (SERIOUSLY).

I bought my calculus book online for $110 ($173 in the book store).

I'm now on my way out the door to spend.....$200.40 on my Chemistry TEXTBOOK, $81 on the lab manual, and another $14 for the lab notebook. FUCCCCCCCCCCCCK Chemistry. It's a brand new book, out of stock on Amazon.com, not available on Half.com. So gay.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to go and blow all my extra (see: FOOD) money.

I've been at about $100 for every semester. I borrow books, go to the library, and then always buy online. Also, sometimes getting one edition early will save tons of money and won't make any difference in the class. Oftentimes new editions are made just to keep up profits for the author and publisher. I usually take 17 credits. By far the best site I've used for books is campusi.com. I highly recommend it.
