Holy shit. This guy was amazing. I was in Jazz Band throughout middle school and we listened to countless songs by him, I even saw him perform at a local high school two years ago, incredibly talented.
RIP.

Maynard could make the theme from rocky sound "cool".
I got to see him earlier this year. They encored with Birdland and that funky Herbie Hancock cover ( I can't remember the name). Those were terrific. But the best part of the encore was him and the piano player doing a duet that was as beautiful as anything I have ever heard.
May he RIP.

I remember my father taking me to see him multiple times when I still quite young. I even remember meeting Maynard when I was young. It's been a while seen I've last seen him play, but it brought me to a few tears to know he had passed. Rest in peace, Maynard.

I...I can't tell if you're joking...but if you are, this is fucking hilarious.
I was never much of a maynard fan in terms of playing, but his compositional work was fucking awesome. One of the few contemporary big bands I can listen to, aside from like...Mintzer's big band.
