FOB Studio Update

In the latest issue of Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com), there is an update on Fall Out Boy's (http://www.falloutboyrock.com) recording process. The update can be read below.

Tom Petty and Babyface may not have much in common musically, but both are leaving their mark on Fall Out Boy's new disc. "We ended up finding a lof of other things in us that we didn't expect," says principal composer Patrick Stump. "There's some straight rock & roll, kind of a Tom Petty/Bruce Springsteen thing. I'm not saying that you're going to notice it, but I was surprised how much of that influence came out in the writing." The Chicago pop punkers have re-teamed with Neal Avron, who produced much of their breakthrough 2004 album, From Under The Cork Tree, and they will also record with R&B hitmaker Babyface, who is producing two tracks. Says bassist-lyricist Pete Wentz, "I don't think it's going to become like R. Kelly or anything. I think (Babyface) will explore Patrick's vocal range - (and) make that a little more soulful." The band has not lost its penchant for long-winded, arch song titles: "I'm Like A Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Getting You Off" is an uncharacteristically cheery love song Wentz wrote during a brief relationship last year: "I'm the kind of person who is atracted to turbulence, so girlfriends never really stick around, but at the time it was really genuine and heartfelt." And though Wentz and Stump promise as much ominous brooding as on previous FOB albums, they're intent on having fun too. "Life is very short, and you can't go around painting your face with zombie colors and being pissed the whole time," says Stump.

Seriously, you can't always hear what influences a band if you aren't really listening. Plus, every song will have 'that feel' that you can tell when you're listening to a certain band(For me anyway)

Patrick and the drummer need to find different muscians and make a record relying on patricks studio voice, and without wentz lyrics runing the vocal lines. that would be fun. maybe something piano heavy.
