I've been trying since the 7th grade to start a band. Every person I've tried to write with hasn't worked out. Be it a drummer, a guitarist, a bassist, anything and everything. I've never felt comfortable writing music with anyone that I've tried.
I'm almost 18 now and I'm going into my Senior year of High School and finally, finally, finally, it is beginning to happen. I've finally fallen together with a bassist and a drummer (I play guitar) who have the same ideas/goals as me and we're already writing fantastic music (in our minds haha).
I just want to say that I'm fucking happy. Because I've been trying for 5 years and nothing has happened. But now, it's all coming together and music is finally being made. It's amazing.
Think Jimmy Eat World / MBR's Voices, in a way. I don't know, but I love it.
The End.

Just don't start tooting your horn (how gay a phrase is that?) just yet until you at least have a few songs down. I remember in my Junior year, wanting a band desperatly. All we would do is talk about it though and nothing happened. There are kids who I met in my Senior year who would talk up their "band" but they either sucked really bad, or the "band" was nothing more than 3 kids who haven't even learned a whole cover song.
Anyway, it takes time and good luck. I still haven't been in a real band, but I'd love to.

Good for you.
I've been trying the same thing since 6th grade, and I'm now in 9th.
I was in a band and we were starting to write, and this summer I went away for a month with my family to our cabin, and when I came back (today) I hear from people that aren't in the band that I'm in tell me I'm kicked out. I started the main idea and stuff in the band a year ago, and my best friends still haven't confessed to replacing me.
It fucking sucks.
Plus, I talked to most of the band during the summer and they didn't mention anything about me being out. When I asked them if i was kicked out they said they would never kick me out, and other shit about how they were waiting for me to get back to record.
How low is that?
Advice for not breaking shit and yelling at them?

Wow its really crazy how so many other people have the same situations as you. The whole music thing really hit me hard when i entered high school being a freshman. I started listening to Limp Bizkit, Static X, and System of a Down, that kinda stuff but also fell in love with Blink, NFG, and every Drive Thru records band haha. All my friends around me where able to get in bands and I (i play drums) couldnt find shit, i was sooo left out of being in a band and playing shows and recording demos and having fun. Till what i realized i needed to do was go outside my clique of friends and find new people. As high school went on i fell in love with NOFX, MXPX, stuff like that but also started likeing As I lay Dying, Poison the Well, and stuff like that. I was in a couple little bands and we made a couple songs and had fun but it was nothing serious. Now that im 19 and outta high school im in a totally serious band that have played a butt load of shows even a show with Versus The Mirror and At All Cost. We will be putting a few thousand dollars together to record a real cd, get a van and a trailer and hit the road for tour with in the next few months. Just shows that if you wait and keep practicing and waiting and practicing and waiting, something will eventually come around. So for you young dudes out there wanting to be in a band and play shows and whatnot, just keep it up and be serious about it, trust me it will be worth it.

I guess I was just lucky. I started playing the bass to make a band with my friends as a fun hobby when we were all like 13 and after about 2 years of doing covers and writing lame songs it all just clicked and somehow I learned to sing and we actually got pretty good. It was literally the first 3 people I ever started playing music with and somehow it all worked out really well and we've written some (in my mind) great songs and had some great times playing shows and just jamming over the years.
I have to say being in a band with your friends and writing music you're proud of has to be one of the most fun and rewarding experiences I've ever had so good luck to you man, I hope it works out.

I'm like you, except I haven't reached this point yet.
