View Full Version : Madison Breaking Up?

Rumor on the street is that Madison (http://www.myspace.com/madisonnj) will be breaking up (http://www.excessdb.com/showlisting.html). Wonder if the "(Don't Sign To) Rushmore Records" on their myspace label information has anything to do with it?

It was on their myspace page on the sidebar. Where it says "Label" it had said "(Dont sign to) Rushmore Records" unless it was taken down.

it's honestly all the label's fault. richard didn't have enough money to care about them back then, and now he apparently just doesn't give a shit.

didn't count the stars have a similiar issue with another label..and they disbanded..but found a way around the contract like same band different name?

this is too bad. and it seems like every band on rushmore has been killed. it's not looking good for the mile after
im sure richard said they werent a major priority. he would rather have put over 100k into a 3 disc that probably wont recoup? im sure madison asked for a tenth of that. labels are supposed to get bands in the studio as soon as possible, and not make them wait and wait and wait. what a shitty situation.

i'm not sure if i am even close to being right or not
count the stars was on victory, i have no idea about the rest of that
sounds like something victory would do, but i bet there's no way in hell they'd let them go with just a break up/reunite with another band name. they'd hold them to that damn contract no matter what their name was...
[edit] i've heard rumors rushmore is not going to be a label anymore as well (i would assume they're just going to put those bands on drive-thru) and the fact that their samplers only read drive-thru now as opposed to drive-thru/rushmore supports this, anyone know about it?

It seems like every band that signs to Drive-thru or Rushmore has to change their sound right before or right after (like Socratic, Adelphi and other bands that in my opinion had better songs before full lengths {"Funeral Masses"--and--"Attention"}...That might just be coincidental, but it appears to go on with a lot of the bands on the label.
So then their demos don't get approved, and there are problems with releasing shit on time.
If label problems have caused Madison to break up, that is very unfortunate. I hope they get back on the right track soon.
I wonder if we'll ever hear anything from The Track Record...

the fact that something like that could happen just goes to show how little some bands read/understand/input into their contracts. if a band signs to a label and shit immediately starts going bad for the band, it's most likely the band's fault for not understanding what they were getting into. the fantasy of getting signed is sometimes enough to get bands to sign a contract without asking questions or making demands, for fear of having the offer taken away from them. and that's totally stupid.

richard probably didn't put out their cd because it wasnt good. i mean all the songs they put out after the ep just werent as good (it was bad) and wouldn't have got them anywhere. i mean richard has been hanging out with these guys for the past 5 years, and he's a real honest guy, but their new stuff isnt as good.

funeral masses was the change in sound...
the only change after that (which really doesn't sound that different to me, a little more piano, a little less poppy...i don't know, i like the 'i am the doctor'-esque stuff better anyway) was their choice. they don't play funeral masses anymore because they don't like it...

That's so fucking shitty. This band puts on a decent live show, even though I haven't seen them in a year, and writes some of the catchiest lyrics out there, and to have some label shit come around and fuck them in the ass, fuck that. This band is seriously better than most of the bands who were ever on Drive Thru. And I think the new stuff is awesome and I was anticipating the new album. And even though this probably doesn't make a difference, but Richard and Stephanie will never see a fucking dime from me.

rushmore didnt give a fuck about these dudes. They're good friends of mine and a great band. they recorded dozens of demos (all of which i have heard and all of which are fucking awesome). Richard never payed attention to them. They sent him emails "have you listened to our demos yet?" his response...."GO FUCK YOURSELF"
they couldnt get out of a shitty deal they never should have signed in the first place, nothing was getting done. The only way to progress as human beings was to break up.
and for the record all any of them wanted was to play music for their fans, to write, record, and support an EP or full length ANYTHING new.
its a damn shame that they broke up, and anyone in this thread who is talking shit should be fucking ashamed of themselves.

oops, i didn't mean to be like...rude about that, rereading my wording. haha sorry. but i misread your post entirely and thought you were saying funeral masses was a change. and i was like yes..and it's obvious why anyone would want to change from the old stuff, haha. i do know that that change (and the change from funeral masses to lunch for the sky) had nothing really to do with drive-thru. i know nothing about the other bands and someone else in this thread said madison's change was due to drive-thru.
from what i've heard of the new stuff it's more upbeat and happier sounding than a lot of lunch for the sky so if you liked funeral masses you'll probably like the new stuff more than lunch for the sky. then again, i've only heard a few new songs and except the one they played live before adam left (blend in) i've only heard them acoustic....and considering how many unreleased songs they have written who knows if those will be the new songs they're putting on their next release.

as someone very close to the band....
If you want to blame anyone for this blame those pigs @ Drive Thru.
Fact: Madison asked to be let out of their contract after richard and stephanie werent liking their demos since they are trying to change every band into some mature gay sound they are trying to promote. Madison I am sure will make the demos available. They sounded like the DTR people loved and the label got popular with unlike the unlistenable shit they put out now from socratic and thier ilk. Rochard and Stephanie opress bands with their shitty opinions on a band who knew what they wanted their record to sound like and not letting them record untill they "matured". Thay have an agenda of where they want this music scene to go and the push it on bands who really do not want anything to do with thier shitty taste.
Richard and Stephanie agreed to drop the band but then to torture the band it has been nearly 6 months since that happened. They have had their lawyers stall it evenbthough everything has been agreed upon and madison cant shop themselves to other labels. DTR wants money back from thier signing bonus which the band does not have. Between this and not having the support of a label, the band can no longer function and has acumulated debt from van breakdowns etc. They just cant keep going.
I know my spelling is wrong but it doesn't diguise the every word in this I watched with my own 2 eyes with no speculation.
Blame those assholes at DTR. They have become the greedy major label bullshit punk and underground music is supposed to stand againt. Oh yeah I am sure Madison is feeling a little bent out of shape for all the times that freak richard had them walk on his back like the pervert he is. Really sucks having a pervert exploit teenagers. i could see this being true for sure. the whole thing i don't get is if they wanted them to have a completely opposite sound from what they had, why the fuck sign them in the first place. i'm sure they could have found a million bands that would fit the mold they were looking for without having to risk people rejecting the new madison sound if they liked the old stuff.
and whether you like them or not, they are nice guys and their passion is music and though they are young, they have been doing it for a long time and because of this bullshit they are forced to break up and that is just not right under any circumstances.

I am surprised Michael Jackson never had him over for dinner.
Legitametaly this is someone who knows what they are talking about BELIEVE THIS! I am one of the many unfortunate who have been duped into walking on that scum bag pedofiles back and many of your fav bands on other labels have done so as well. All dtr consists of is lies, and kiddy porn, you wanna get signed to them get your best 16yr olds out.... and when you wear sandals to the douche bags house try not to get creeped out when he whipps out a fresh pair of socks cause he knows youll be cracking that back. seriously i think bands who have been fucked by this scum bag and his fat ass lesbo sister should step up and get this peddy out there as one. Needs to be some megans law type shit on him

he actually makes people walk on his back? that is the fuckin weirdest thing i've ever heard.
I'm afraid that the rumors are true. Sept 1 is the final show by Madison. I know these guys and they are some of the nicest guys around. They love to write and perform. Music was their thing. They're not into all the political bullshit that goes with signing to a label. They've been strung around by DTR for years now and they've had enough. If DTR doesn't want to record them then they should let them move on to another label. Why keep jerking them around? What purpose does it serve? Whether you like their sound or not, they played from their heart and put on one hell of a show. It seems true that nice guys finish last. It's a damn shame. I'm going to this show but I'll probably cry. Come out and show your support. This is it for a young bunch of talented kids that had their hopes & dreams crushed by politics & greed. LET THEM GO DRIVETHRU. Richard, please give these kids a break and let them move on. What's the sense in being a dick. Instuct your attorney to release them. You do your thing and let Madison do theirs. You'll be admired for doing the right thing instead of letting a good bunch of kids crash & burn. Have a heart Richard & Stepanie PLEASE!

I heard that Rushmore will be closing its doors soon. Not like it would matter anyway.

drive-thru & rushmore have been screwing their bands for the past year or more.
one of the BEST albums of last year (I Am The Avalanche's self-titled) got JACK for promotion & they wouldn't even let them shoot the video they were CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED TO GIVE THEM.
richard & stefanie make me sick.
