Consistently brilliant show bringing music from all over the world together each episode to perform live. Been going for many years and boxsets of the show can be bought. Just a place to post people's favourite performances, talk about who is coming up or recent shows etc.
Without a doubt my favourite show on television. Here's some videos to start off with which may interest people:

Yeah amazing performance. Wasn't sure whether to put this in Entertainment or Music Forum as it's technically both, but meh. So many videos on YouTube from the show dating right back to when it started until now, spend hours watching and searching.

The best music programme out there. Possibly the best programme. This weeks line-up sounds really good, I can't wait.
Good choices on the videos.

Genuinely favourite show still on television, so awesome. I love the more unknown "World Music" acts he gets on too as well as the inteviews with the veterans.
Thanks, just a quick broad selection, I could have picked a bunch more but that's what the thread is for, you got any personal favourites?

Pleasure! Pick up Two Dancers album by them, far better than their debut in my opinion.

I love the show, its seriously the best music show I've ever heard, I think it's the variety of acts he gets on there that keep it interesting.
BUT.... does anyone else think he's a really shit interviewer? They always seem really awkward and stilted and it eats into valuable performance time.

Yeah sometimes, but on the other hand I enjoy the casual feel of a lot of them because he clearly cares and knows so much about all types of music from all decades. It enver bothers me that much, if anything it adds to the endearing quality of the show.

How does it compare to AICS? So far the only song I've heard from it is Devil's Spoke,I ordered it because her début is one of my favourite albums, and until it arrives all I have to go on is reviews

I much prefer it to Alas... I wasn't a huge fan of her debut though, so that might be saying something. The songs sound more substantial on this new record though.

Probably, after all, she was only 17 when she wrote the first album, so the three years inbetween that and ISBIC allowed for some growth. Are there any songs on the first album that have a similar feel though? I would love to hear her sing more, like in Your Only Doll (Dora), some of the songs on the first album don't really do her voice justice

Yeah, there are plenty like that, although she seems to have tailored her voice to perfect the lower registers a lot better, it sounds so subtle but so awesome especially on the likes of "Made by Maid".

If you stay in on New Years then Jools Holland is your saviour, cos there is never any thing decent on except this! Great programme, I have some of last years series saved on my DVD recorder, Biffy Clyro and Foo Fighters, but love watching the stuff from the 90's on youtube and what not, too many great performances to mention.

I don't think I will ever be able to tire of hearing those songs from Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. So damn good. Libertines at their prime and Killers when they were still awesome. And of course Whatever by Oasis is just something else.

Yeah big fan, I find it weird seeing them on Jools Holland and Letterman in the States etc. as it was only a year ago I saw them playing a tiny venue in Norwich. Great for them though. You could tell touring had got to their voices a bit from their Jools performance is all, particularly Marcus' but they made up for it with energy.

Just got around to watching last weeks episode. Corrine Bailey Rae was great. Vampire Weekend were awesome, they're all so talented. MGMT were cool, but it's bizarre to think it's the same band that brought out Oracular. Metric were boring. Crystal Castles were exactly what I expected. Alice looked like she was wasted. Tom Jones has an amazing voice.
Anyone else think that the VW frontman looks like a younger Jimmy Carr?
Kyle Huntington
06/03/10, 01:19 PM
Just finished watching it. Pretty much agreed with everything you said. Crystal Castles and Metric really disappointed me. I adore Metric but Haines' voice didn't seem up to it and their sound seemed really empty. Crystal Castles have swung me around and I particularly ike a few songs from new album, but that was dull too. Vampire Weekend and Corinne Bailey Rae were awesome though and I'm not a big fan of either generally.

This week Looks to be way better (minus The Ting Tings):
The Ting Tings
John Legend
Imelda May
Chapel Club

Yeah could've been. Plus it's not my favourite song of theirs, think they'd have been better off doing something a bit more atmospheric. Was a bit punk for the occasion.

Yeah could've been. Plus it's not my favourite song of theirs, think they'd have been better off doing something a bit more atmospheric. Was a bit punk for the occasion.
can judge for yourself: CE6ynpJm_7k
Much too drum-heavy I thought. Not a fan of the drums on this song anyway really, come to realise the drummer isn't the best.
I should really watch the show, more often. Anyway that vid is awesome, though I agree about the drumming being quite heavy on the performance. Thanks for sharing these.

Jesus, Kings Of Leon just get more and more boring with each release lately.

LOL, have to agree, everyone is pumped about the UK stadium tour tickets going on sale tomorrow, can't say I'm fussed. Foo's at Milton Keynes however.... :)

That riff in the first song they played is SUCH filler.
Vaccines seemed alright, bit weird without the reverb/other FX on the voice but pretty good for a first TV performance nonetheless.

They were great, nice n raw. Loved it. Hope they get to play another song on Friday. Worked well with his vocals like that too, sounded "rougher" in a good way.

Yeah would be good to see Vaccines again on Friday, I liked how they messed with the second verse a bit from the recorded version.

What instrument are they using for the sound heard at the intro and then throughout? Just a synth thing played over the top?

Probably a recorded guitar part with effect on one of their pedals. How's the Holy Grail treating you by the way?

Not bad, love the sound, though having to plug it into the mains is a bit annoying, didn't think about that as my distortion one's battery powered. Guess I should get hold of a power extension thingy?
So, also, was planning on getting tickets for Vaccines on the door but do you reckon this exposure means we're better off getting them beforehand? Capacity of the place is 320?

Not so much at Reading the other month, but great all the same. They were the only band on main stage all weekend who somehow managed to make it feel like we were in a sweaty club with about 3,000 people in, and there's certainly something to be said about that.

I must be in the minority in saying The Suburbs is my favourite so far. Funeral was good and obviously has the big hits when it comes to the live show, but I always go for Suburbs now when I want to listen to them. Neon Bible, if I've listened to it three times all the way through I'd be surprised.

Haha, yeah I have no idea why Jools persists with doing interviews. He's a terrible interviewer, especially when he's doing it live. Mike Skinner didn't seem particularly interested to talk about his book, so that didn't help.
Musically I thought it was a decent week. Nothing remarkable there, but the only act I disliked was that indie band with the girl in the Panda mask. Can't remember their name. Everybody else I liked, but didn't love.
I can't believe Jools is on his 40th season.
