Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies (http://www.absolutepunk.net/mefirstandthegimmiegimmies) were booed (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06238/716572-63.stm) by Pittsburgh Pirates fans.

I never liked the Pirates. or Pittsburgh for that matter. I'm undecided about Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies. I do like regular pirates though. Yarrrr

We boo so many people that play in our stadiums.

We booed the hell out of The Poverty Neck Hillbillies, during The All Star Game. Haha.

i was there, i felt terrible, they were playing songs that one shouldnt ever cover like 'stairway to heaven' and if you are gonna cover it you cant make a punk version of it...but i thought they did really well, they just arent the taste of older pittsburgh folk.

Its nto a sin to cover stairway to heaven but when youre in front of a crowd who is probably in love with the original song they're just nto going to like it no matter how well the cover is.

well pennsylvania is a bumfuck state.....definately would make my top 10 for worst states in the union.

i dont like me first but they sound like some trashy fans....kind of like the cleveland indian fans who boo jim thome every time he comes up to bat...fuking pathetic

Bumfuck state? Trashy?

I'm not even sure what you mean dude. A washed up cover band got booed at a sporting event and all of a sudden we suck as a state.

They are clearly the wrong choice.

Pittsburgh wants to hear Bon Jovi and/or The Clarks at every sporting event ever.

We're grown ass men in Pittsburgh, we don't want dumb punks ruin what we have.

I do have to say I like a few of MF&TGG's songs, but I just think this was SUCH a bad crowd to put them in front of. One of the women I work with (she's older) thought they weren't horrible, but just not great, but I dunno, the people that gather for sports games around here (minus the Pens, I think, since they play different music than the other sports) just aren't made for a band like that.

I was at the game & when they announced the Gimme Gimmes I was like "how will this work?" Then of course it didn't...the crowd came to see fireworks not a cover band & the booing ensued...I felt pretty bad for the band but hey, they made their cash I imagine.

What you have? Bon Jovi? Good lord, I live in the polka hell that is Wisconsin and even we know that Bon Jovi is lame.

And besides, they were Pirates fans. They're so used to booing that Zepplin would have got booed off stage. At least the Gimmes made some money.

Yeah they're going to leave the Pirates game because they didn't like the band. I can see where your comming from that it's wrong to boo, but I doubt anyone was leaving the actual event they came for because they hated the opening act.

Um, what the fuck gives the right for pirate fans to boo anything other than their team for sucking so much ass this year?

They were supposed to play three nights, but got fired. As soon as I saw them come on tv I knew what was going to happen. After stairway to heaven people were just sitting there stuned, they had no clue what happened. I thought it was hilarious. I would of went to the game if I knew there were playing.

Man, just imagine what would have happened if they had covered "Free Bird" and were in, say, Arlington.

Shit would have gone wild. It would have been WTO Part II.

Well even though I live in a bordering state to PA, Pittsburgh is a fucking awesome city.
It is cool that the pirates organization would give Me First a try, however just not the right crowd for them. The fans should have shut the fuck up and taken it in. They are used to losing at baseball and I believe they don't boo during that.

The article in the local paper was pretty funny...in it, the lead singer (his name is escaping me right now) basically said "well, we're a punk band, so getting booed by the majority of people helps our rep" and "we still got paid." I'm from Pittsburgh and, when I heard about that, knew it was a terrible, terrible idea. The majority of Pittsburghers are stuck in either the 70's or the early 90's. Shit happens, then you die. Getting booed is not the worst thing that can happen to a band...

i'm going to say it right here: fuck stairway to heaven.

i'm tired of every lameo talking about how "sacred" the song is.

I was SOOOO going to go to one of those SkyBlast games! Had I known Me First was playing I would have been there for sure. Those dudes are amazing live. I would have loved seeing them again. I had no idea their singer was from Pittsburgh. That's cool.

PS. The Pirates actually have a winning record at home. They just can't win on the road. 17-48. Ouch.
