They get a lot of hate, but they write simple pop rock that's fun to listen do. Yeah, haters, we get it, you got sick of hearing "The Anthem".

Maybe one of the most undeservedly shat on bands in roughly the last ten years. First two albums were great. Last two had some bright spots on each. Cardiology seems poised to go in the right direction.
Also, I really appreciate that this isn't an IMMEDIATE diss thread, haha. Sure, the OP may be xtoolaudition, but I'll take what I can get.

Good Morning Revival had only a few good songs, but it was definitely a step above "The Chronicles of Life and Death" that title alone was terrible. But they seem older now, and confident in the music they want to make, so I'm excited for the new record.

I really do miss the times when radio rock was stuff like Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Blink 182, NFG, etc. I guess '01-03ish. The good old days.
that being said, I have not listened to this band in at least five years and don't really see myself doing so again except in spells of nostalgia.

Honestly, they are the band that seriously got me into pop punk. I was like 13 I think and in the same day from walmart I bought the young and the hopeless and chevelle's first cd. Needless to say I had TYTH in my big ass cd player forever.
Call them what you want personality wise, but they were genre openers for a lot of the kids that were stuck on mtv and saw their videos.

04/28/10, 08:04 AM
I liked some songs from them (the singles) but I can call them my favourite pop punk band. For me, Green Day, blink-182, Sum 41, New Found Glory, Yellowcard, Relient K, The Starting Line are WAY better bands.
And right now, if I should talk about the best band from Maryland, I'd say The Dangerous Summer

04/28/10, 10:48 AM
The River is one of the best songs from them, and it was of GMR so yeah some of that cd sucked, but not all of it ha
I had a sick obsession with GC in middle school. I remember my technology teacher pointed to my GC hoodie once and said "I bet you won't like them in a few years." I denied it to no end but.. of course he was right.

Not that I don't respect your opinion, but the S/T is one nearly every living creature, from humans to ants to trees, consider to be their best.
They got a lot of undeserved hate.
Good to know they're moving away from the Good Morning Revival sound.
Hell yeah they do. Even bands like (for examples) Metro Station and Forever the Sickest Kids on a bad day never got the undeserved shit GC received back in the day.
Actually, in one interview I think the Maddens said something about the album sounding mostly like their first two, but still having some elements of their fourth. Uh-oh.
Good Morning Revival had only a few good songs, but it was definitely a step above "The Chronicles of Life and Death" that title alone was terrible. But they seem older now, and confident in the music they want to make, so I'm excited for the new record.
GMR is by light years and country miles their worst album. TCOLAD at least had more than a couple of bright spots (We Believe, in particular).
I'm pretty sure my first CD was The Young and The Hopeless, if that's even the title.
There ya go.
It's just a bit too cheesy for my liking on a lot of the songs. There are some great songs on it though. Seasons, East Coast Anthem, Festival Song, Walk By and I Heard You are all up there with some of their best.
Again, not to be an ass, but how is their S/T too cheesy, but songs like All Black, Misery, and Keep Your Hands Off My Girl A-OK?
Haven't they scrapped Cardiology?

I have a bit of faith that Cardiology could turn out well (at the very least, a step up from their last two). I mean, at the point they've reached, they aren't really gonna gain anything from switching to new styles. There's no way it's gonna be as horrible as everyone else will claim (and it'll clearly catch some hate here due to the name "Good Charlotte" being attached to it). Besides, I always enjoyed Joel's voice.

i'm not saying i don't like it, i'm just saying it sounded better when it was more raw in the young & the hopeless.
also, i'm not a fan of the lyrics, they seem a tad cliche at parts.
just think about it, some bands sound better live than on record, that is usually because the record is too polished.

I don't get that mentality. I just don't, it's impossible for a song to be overproduced.

too much is added into it, it doesn't sound natural. if you listen to like its her birthday live, you'll hear a guitar solo, in the recorded version they added so much synth and stuff like that it doesn't sound natural anymore and you can barely hear it.

Cardiology is... decent. Certainly no Top 15 contender, but it seems to be a step up from TCOLAD. Thankfully, it also destroys GMR. Oddly enough, I could name at least five songs offhand that would've made a better single choice than Like It's Her Miscarraige, so it's safe the say they screwed the pooch on all cylinders with that one single. Haven't heard the b-sides yet, but I get a weird feeling they're gonna be better than what actually made the cut. The interlude and intro are out of place, imo.
I also can't wait to laugh at the fickles who are gonna write this off as some piece of shit album, when in actuality this is just a c-minus pop-rock album.

My standards must be far lower than yours, hahahaha.
But seriously, Cardiology is completely average. All we do now is sit back and watch the rest of the AP faithful defecate on this album like it's the worst thing to happen to pop-punk in years.

I liked chronicles a lot. Not their best but I definitely enjoyed it and will give several of the songs play time on my ipod from time to time. I love mountain and predictable a lot. Even songs that were a little different like The truth were still good. I don't think we could ever hear a song like that from them now without synth or added beats to it

just got through the first listen. definetly shits on GMR and is a much more simple album. simple in the fact that they've toned back the electronics (thoough it's still there in alot of songs) and focused on what made them successful in the first place. there are a few songs that sound like old school gc, but for the most part it's alot more "mature" sounding. i'd give it a C+ atm... you can tell they really tried to make something decent here.

Well that's so terribly ironic if they dismiss GC as "terrible", because GC is so so so much fucking better than ATL could ever dream of being.
This record rules, I can't see how anyone could think it's even close to being terrible. "Silver Screen Romance" and "1979" are some of the best pop-rock songs I've heard all year. This band will always be my #2 favorite band of all time, right behind Weezer... and I'm completely unashamed to admit that I enjoy ALL of each of those band's catalogs, regardless of what most people's opinions of them may be.

Came home from a shitty day at work to find this album had leaked. I don't think my mood's ever swung round that fast before.
It's a pretty typical Good Charlotte album really: some fantastic high points (1979, Silver Screen Romance), some fucking horrible low points (Cardiology) but mostly somewhere in between. Everything's catchy as fuck though, and I love that :D
Does anybody else think they came up with the name Cardiology before they wrote the song though? Cause even for them, that song is seriously the lowest of the low.

Haha I definitely agree with you. I personally love GC (always have), but to the average listener GC and All Time Low are similar in musical stylings. I heard their new song and it seems like a step above the dancy stuff they were releasing last time I checked them out.
Son of a bitch, I enjoy this. I found myself listening to it a few times in the car.
It's a shame there are so many moments of terrible lyrics on the album though. If they matured lyrically and toned down the whiny vocals a little, this would be a pretty respectable album. Some of the melodies are great. The chorus on "Like It's Her Birthday" is awesome but the lyrics in that song are just awful.
Thankfully, I'm the kind of person who can USUALLY look past poor lyrics for a good-sounding album. This is pushing it though, I have to admit.
I honestly went into this almost wanting to hate it, which is stupid and immature, and by the fourth song, I was singing along.

LOL. Love this review of their new album from NME.
Whoa! A quick glance at the tracklisting for ‘Cardiology’ suggests Good Charlotte (http://www.nme.com/artists/good-charlotte) might have started covering The Smashing Pumpkins (http://www.nme.com/artists/the-smashing-pumpkins) (‘1979’) and The La’s (‘There She Goes’). Which is, if not downright creepy, then just a little bit beguiling. But no, both songs are stone-cold Madden originals. Booo! If you like your rock’n’roll played by four fat talentless fucks and Morrissey (http://www.nme.com/artists/morrissey)’s old drummer Dean Butterworth (seriously, wtf?!), then… oh just sod off, yeah? Disgustingly derivative and Pro Tooled to the max, ‘Cardiology’ is monstrously offensive – the latest shit-streak by music’s laziest sons. But seriously, what did you expect? Amazing indie covers?

Sex On the Radio
Harlow's Song (Can't Dream Without You)
1979
There She Goes
Right Where I Belong
I feel that if were those nine songs and the b-side Crash, the whole of the album would be drastically better. With those ten songs, they might have achieved the feel good record they (supposedly) wanted out of this album. No point in having it extended to thirteen songs (excluding the needless intro and interlude) when a few of them are a waste. Also, the single and the title track are the two big errors on the album.

Hopefully some sweater at the front puts it on YouTube. Although it's 18+ seeing it's at the pub. So maybe we'll all be on the beers
