View Full Version : Question about Branch

Hey Pats fans, what are they looking for in return. I've heard a 1st rounder, but also a 4th. I know he wants to talk to the Eagles, but there is no way in hell anyone gives the Pats a 1st rounder and pays Branch 6+ million.

they don't want to trade him honestly. they want him to go out, see that he's not going to be able to get a deal better than the one they offered him (he thinks he could get reggie wayne money 6 years 43 million). the pats want him to see that, come back, and sign the deal they offered.
but if a trade were to happen, a team would have to be willing to pay branch more than he's worth, and most likely give up a 1st rounder or something packaged with that sort of value. the pats aren't looking to unload him, i think he only leaves town if a team is willing to ridiculously overpay for him in both salary and compensation.

spot on. i believe he'll ultimately sign with the pats, whether its the 3 or 6 year they've offered. allowing him to try and work out a trade was the best thing the organization could do because it ties Branch's hands.

yeah that is what I figured. Honestly, I don't think the guy is worth 6 mil a year let alone anymore. And no team in need of a wr should trade a high pick for branch with the wr depth in the next few drafts.

apparently it shocked him and his agent...they weren't prepared to shop around, so they've really been caught with their pants down. even more of a reason they won't be able to work anything out.

yeah i know. this perception of the patriots being cheap bothers me, because it isnt the case. they just pay people what they are worth and refuse to overpay. the richard seymour holdout is a great illustration of this ...he held out because he wanted more money and the pats felt like he was worth it, so they signed him longterm. now branch is trying to pull this, in a contract year nonetheless, and the pats arent biting.
branch wont miss any regular season time if he wants the kind of money he is asking for. he's a FA after the season and teams arent going to pay $40 million for a guy who just sat out a year due to a contract dispute.

If he doesn't find a job somewhere, I think the Eagles would give him some sort of position.

ha, that's a joke. he taught donovan mcnabb the offense. do you really think he's been here for any reason other than the fact that he continues to be the mediator between donovan and the coaches?
now that donny is just about up to speed, you're starting to hear koy's a little bit expendable, but don't think he slipped through the cracks for a decade by accident.

It took Mcnabb 7 years to get up to speed? Koy has only been here for 10?

Offenses always change and having an extra pair of eyes to help read things is huge.

yeah, so make him a coach. He can't read things when he is playing.

the only time he's ever going to play is when the Eagles don't have McNabb in. And honestly, if we don't have McNabb in, we're fucked anyway. So keep him on the field where he can be right there and let him do his thing. I wouldn't care if they used a roster spot for McNabb's lucky teddy bear if it made him play better.
