View Full Version : Would you be pissed[Roommate Edition!]?

I Went to high school with one of my roommates and played hockey with him, I'd consider us pretty good friends. Living together this year never had any problems, etc.

Yesterday he told my other roommate that he is moving into another place. Landlords took the house off the internet site they were advertising it on. Also had to turn away a few kids because I said our house was filled. If he told me straight up he was moving out I wouldn't have really cared.

Gave the reason that "He didn't wanna live in a full house with 5 roommates, it would be too crowded"

The fact he just wouldn't tell my other roommate and I he was moving out right away and instead wait 3 weeks sort of bugs me quite a bit. We go back a bit as friends and it's just sort of confusing. Just don't get why the guy wouldn't just tell us right away.

How would you feel?

So he bailed because a girl he didn't like moved in? That's the meat of the story, right?

Don't really know how I feel about it just yet, Roommate related though.

I Went to high school with one of my roommates and played hockey with him, I'd consider us pretty good friends. Living together this year never had any problems, etc.

About 3 weeks ago kids came to look at the house for next year [only 3 rooms out of 6 were rented out this year] and one of the girls he didn't think he inparticular liked, and started to throw a hissy fit via texts, etc. Basically I just told him welcome to the real world and to stop being a baby about it. Afterwards he said I was right and regardless was going to stay despite this.

Yesterday he tells my roommate and I that he is moving into another place after telling myself and my other roommate. Landlords took the house off advertising and a few of my friends who were looking to me here I turned away because I said our house was filled. If he told me straight up he was moving out I wouldn't have really cared.

Gave the reason that "He didn't wanna live in a full house with 5 roommates, it would be too crowded"

I am staying here regardless and have already signed for next year, but the fact he just wouldn't tell my other roommate and I he was moving out right away and instead wait 3 weeks sort of bugs me quite a bit. We have a history going back to high school as friends and have the same group of friends. For him to hide something for no reason at all just bugs the fuck out of me. Just don't get why the guy wouldn't just tell us right away.

How would you feel?

If you can translate the bolded section into english, I'd be happy to offer my opinion.

From what I can understand of the story, I would not be too upset at him honestly. Because, if that is the worst thing he is going to do to you as a roommate/previous roommate... well then, you should trade me spots, please.

I wouldn't be upset with him. Maybe he wasn't hiding it for three weeks, but instead debating it the whole time. And I know there are certain bitches I could not live with for a day.

If I understood this correctly, he wasn't honest to you, kept everything to himself and only told you when it was basically too late. considering he was your friend, yeah, I would be pissed.

This is AbsolutePunk.net. We speak American. (joke (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=1667452))

I understand he said he'd stay, but it's still his decision. I've lived in houses with 5 people before and it wasn't an enjoyable experience. At least he gave you a heads up rather than just bailing on you. That'd be a dick move.

Thanks for correcting it.

I think you might have taken this the wrong way (you might have not but I'm just offering a different view point). You guys are pretty good friends and he may have found it difficult to tell you straight up that he was moving into another place. The fact it took so long to tell you has caused you problems so you have a right to be annoyed but at the same time he may have had his reasons for waiting. I think that this could be one of those stupid things where it could get out of control for no good reason. Tell him you were annoyed about not being told straight and see what his response is.

Or maybe... He was having a hard time deciding, and just decided this would be the best for him. He wasn't necessarily holding out

Oh god, shut the hell up about the grammar, people at the beginning of the thread. We all know proper grammar, you don't have to be such a prude about using it all the time just to look intelligent. I graduated the "grammar police" stage like 4 years ago.

That's the american spelling. As someone who lives in the UK, I use the English one. Well done on calling me out on it though, it shows a real awareness of cultural differences.

I know from experience that this sucks. About a week and a half before moving into the dorms at Illinois State my sophmore year, my would be roommate bailed on me and said he was dropping out. I got stuck with some random freshman. Even though my replacement roommate is pretty cool, it still feels like shit when your original roommate bails on you.
