View Full Version : Songs That Feature Xylophone/Glockenspiel?

Kurt Retenauer

Random request, I know, but I was wondering if people could post songs that feature a xylophone or glockenspiel in them? Something like this:

-fRFMkFbH8I

Fail on my part if that's not a glockenspiel or xylophone in there, but I guess you guys will get the drift.

I'm liking that new album a lot. Wasn't a huge fan of her first one, but this one's got a poppier feel to it or something.

The new album is so much better than her first. Much more diverse.

I know it's used somewhere on Straylight Run's first album too. I haven't listened to that album in forever so I can't remember what song(s) it's on, haha.

Arcade Fire songs use them frequently

I always enjoy American Football's wide array of instruments.

I can't think of one that uses either of those instruments in particular but it's a lot of the same kind of sounding stuff.

If you haven't listened to them before I'd recommend "The Summer Ends"

Simply beautiful.

The Miracle That Never Came sounds like it's based around a xylophone.

I think they use those kind of things a lot.

Very enjoyable band.

Yeah, very true.

The one time I saw them they used one. Cool to see an instrument that's rarely seen live, haha.

Damn sounds like a fantastic show.

See Hands In the Sky performed live is on my list of things to do before I die (well. . .was)

I figured the last 2 minutes of that song live would elevate me into a better plane of existence.

Haha I'm not sure I could fathom that.

Have you seen Funny People? When Seth Rogen does the speech about how epic it would be if Will Smith, Tom Cruise, and (soccer player whose name I can't remember) touched the tips of their penises.

That's how I feel it would be.

The vibraphone is my least favorite of the keyboard percussion.

I think 'Thought That Gives Me The Creeps' by Hellogoodbye has some.

I find it to be the most versatile though, between the size being capable of 4 mallet play without issues, and the sustain pedal, and then the option of a motor. That's why i'd choose the Vibraphone over any other mallet percussion.

True, but if the sustain pedal isn't used basically perfectly, you're gonna lose a lot of the sound. I feel like the marimba resonates more, especially in its lower register. If you're playing christmas pieces, however, than I agree, the vibraphone is right up your alley. The motor is perfect for holiday tunes.

The marimba will resonate nicely, but I feel that to play a marimba with the same grace as a vibraphone takes just as much talent. I just prefer the shimmer of the vibraphone and the feeling of how it plays from a technical standpoint. It just feels a bit more graceful. Though I do enjoy the Marimba and Xylophone as well. Chimes are amazing as well, probably from a composition standpoint and feeling great when you play them in a large group, my favorite.

Chimes and auxiliary percussion just blow my mind. Simply because they're only used when absolutely necessary. Most songs don't use castanets or chimes unless there's an awesome part highlighting the castanets or chimes. I just think that's cool.

I had the extraordinary honor of being in this year's All-State honor band, but that's not the point, the point is, we played a song called SkySplitter! which has a strong chime part with a few solos, which I was assigned. Pretty much the most amazing feeling ever, walking into that room, and feeling the energy of that band and then the composition of the part.
