Depends entirely on the situation. If I have people over or I'm on a road trip and I just want to throw some tunes on, I'll shuffle it. If not, it's always albums start to finish. No freaking click wheel noises though; that was the first thing I turned off when I got my iPod.

edit: also it's far too much of a hassle to change any of the mentioned settings on an iPod video/classic.

Depends. Walking to class I have it on shuffle songs just to get a variety. Completely different than listening to the radio because I can make a playlist of songs that I wanna hear. I can also skip if I heard the song too many times.
When I'm really into an album, I'll take it off shuffle.

when i'm driving or on an airplane, usually shuffle songs. but when i'm like walking to class i generally pick out an artist or band. but even then, i usually leave shuffle songs on (unless listening to specific albums that require song order or songs that have transitions into the next track).

for the people hating on shuffle, people mean shuffle all songs like having your itunes on shuffle not shuffling the album, of course if you are gonna play the whole album you wouldn't put it on shuffle
