I can't say enough good things about their new record. I haven't heard such a beautiful mesh of both screamo and post-rock in a while, epic and intense throughout. Very important band I feel, probably most true of this year. If you don't have it, get it.... what are you doing? Go get it! =D

I prefer La Chambre des Morts and Insomniac Doze in terms of meshing postrock and screamo, but you're right, great album.

As much as I like Envy, their newest was more of a doze if you will compared to some previous work.

I think that was the intended effect. You have to be able to appreciate that they are more influenced by postrock right now not only in regards to sound but also who they choose to tour with and the label they are on.

Yah totally. I think they're a very unique band and I still love what they do. I just like when they explore more musical territory. The climaxes are unmatched though, and the album still got quite a few plays out of me.

Also, in a discussion like this it would seem weird not to mention CoC.

City of Caterpillar is by far my favorite mesh of screamo and post rock.

Pyramids comes close. I have yet to get into Envy's latest record, though from the few times I have listened to it I can safely say it'll more than likely be one of the better records of '06

Pyramids are fucking quality. it seems a lot of screamo seems to be going that post-rock dare i say Envy track now. I dont think thats a bad thing that it certainly makes post rock a hell of a lot less boring and the straight out screamo sound was starting to get a bit over done and stale. But this year has been very much a redeeming year for screamo. Everything was just staying very 2002 until this year.
