View Full Version : The "I need an NFL team to root for" thread.

Well, since there aren't any Canadian teams (yet), I need an NFL team to cheer for (I've only recently really started to watch/ pay attention to the NFL). So I think I need to pick a team or two to cheer for to make it a little interesting (Similar to Simmons soccer team picking).
Teams I'm considering:
Giants (one of the closest teams to me - fuck the bills)
Bengals (although the bandwagon potential on this one is really high. i really like palmer and chad j.)
Bucs (I just love their jerseys and stadium, really)
Dolphins (however another potential bandwagon team)
Patriots (another close team, although the bandwagon potential on this team is at a maximum)
I'm leaning towards Bengals or Pats right now :/

Well, I absolutely hate the Bengals, though I love Rudi Johnson (Auburn boy). Out of your options, I say the Giants or Dolphins. I've always liked the Dolphins and the same can be said for the Giants. The Dolphins had Marino and now have Ronnie Brown. Of course they've had more, but yeah, that's all I need.

I would tell you to be a Giants fan like me, but you'll be picked on by the Eagles and COwgirls fans. I would go with the Bucs.

Packers mufuka!
Yeah I would say Cinci....Dolphins are a great team though. Who cares if its bandwagon. Theres no Canadian teams, choose who you like. Bengles are somewhat close to you in a sense, well more than Miami.
Do you think there will be a Canadian team added sometime? I think there should it would draw a lot of Canadians, maybe. How do they feel about football I mean it is during Hockey season....Stereotypes....

Nah, fuck the Bengals, and definitely fuck the Pats.
I'd go with the Bucs or Giants, leaning towards the Bucs.

i'm not canadian, so i could be speaking out of my ass. but i think there'd be resistance to the nfl working into canada. like you said, during hockey season, and it's only going to take money away from the cfl.
also, as big as the nfl is, i don't think they're concerned about canada right now. they're attempting to make the game more popular on an international level. but even then canada would be low on the list of priorities.
if anything, you'll maybe see a preseason game, or possibly even eventually a regular season game, played in canada. but there's too many american markets who would kill for a franchise who would be more of a sure thing than a gamble.
it'd have to be a team moving there, and i really don't see any owner taking the chance on moving across the border. i just don't see it happening.

Steelers. If not, go with the Cardinals. Trust me.

Can't go wrong with Seattle. We're close to the border and friendly to Canadians, plus we win a lot.

i say pick one from each conference. but whoever you pick, base it more on the players than the team. start rooting for a player, follow his team, then you'll quickly become a fan of the entire team.

I'm quite sure one will be added in the next 25 years - it's happened in every major sport (except hockey which we were in originally). However I think only a city like Toronto could support one though. The next closest would probably be Vancouver. Only 20,000 to 40,000 fill the Air Canada Centre a week for the Maple Leafs (all sellouts, but it only seats around 20,000) so I think filling a 60,000 seat arena once a week is a possibility. I mean - Skydome used to sell out nightly (50,000) in the early 90s for the Jays. I just think it would take a couple years for Toronto to start filling up the football stadium. Toronto Argo fans (CFL) would easily be turned into Toronto NFL fans. At least I would. (Actually, I don't follow the CFL at all)
The only problem is the CFL. I have no idea how this aspect would work out, especially with teams having a no sign policy with the NFL (no player can sign/play for NFL team while being on a CFL team or somthing similar to that).
edit for this post:

Yea, I guess that's another problem. A ton of American cities would probably get an NFL team before Toronto (but don't forget Toronto does have a population of 2.5 million (around 5.5 if you count the surrounding area "the greater toronto area" - still one of the biggest cities in north america)

thats a no-no you can't root for two teams in the same conference.
Just if you become a Giants fan, I am going to make your season a living hell.
I like how you already added the pats sig ha. . You should have listened to whoever said follow a player and then root for the team later on. When I was growing up I never really watched the NFL. The teams around here sucked (exception to watching barry sanders) but I just loved to watched OSU football. Then after I watched Eddie George play I decided I would follow him and his career. This is how I am a Titans fan. The Lions because of location but hate admitting it, I dont know which is worse. Being a Browns fan, or a Detroit fan. lol
