Beltran leads Pujols in these categories:
Runs
RBI

Doubles
Total Bases
Stolen Bases
Walks (even with P's 22 IBB)

Pujols outright has Avg. but Beltran's on base + slugging is only .060 off P's pace.

Ryan Howard
Carlos Beltran
Albert Pujols

Note, this is regardless of whether or not the Phillies make the postseason.

Um yeah and Beltran has Reyes and Lo Duca in front of him and Delgado and Wright behind him.

Beltran's year would have been the same as last year if the Mets did not bring a guy that gets on base (lo duca) and a power hitter behind him. If you can't realize that, you do not deserve to watch baseball anymore. Pujols walks may be lower because he also hits pitches where beltran would strike out. And Pujols was hurt.

Howard leads Beltran in these...(he's actually behind in walks by 4, but at the rate people aren't pitching to him now, should pass him within 5 games). Plus he's done it with far less batting around him. If the Phils make the playoffs, he should be the MVP hands down.

i think if he keeps pace and gets in the 60's, he'll win the mvp whether they make the playoffs or not. ortiz was the only one even keeping pace in homers and rbi's, and without him howard is going to blow everyone in the majors away. it's looking more and more like a lock as long as he keeps getting some pitches

they've banned amphetamines and steroids. so you know what 75% of those users probably did? swiched to HGH, which is undetectable by MLBs drug tests. its still prevalent and major league baseball's new steroid policy is only a baby step in the right direction.

Yeah. But i just get tired of the body changing thing when it comes to McGwire. I don't doubt he did steroids and I don't respect his homerun numbers anymore, but he was big for a baseball player back in 86 or 87 when he broke in.

no matter what happens with the standings, i don't see how this is even going to be a race. if they both keep going like they are, pujols will be 10 HR's and 20 RBI behind Howard. That's a landslide for power hitters. Not to mention that Howard's GM left the season for dead, and it was Howard who pretty much single handedly carried the Phils into a playoff race and onto the top of espn.com.

as long as he doesn't hit a huge slump that takes his name out of people's heads, he's the mvp hands down.

there are only 3 ways i see howard losing mvp

1. injury
2. he gets intentionally walked an absurd amount of times before the season ends
3. utley starts shredding teams (walk off today) and takes votes from him

this is the first year in awhile where 2 great phils weren't exactly streaking out the same time and baseball is a cycle. Once howard, if it even happens, slows down, Utley should be bouncing back...hopefully today is a start.

Howard may have the best all-around offensive production since bonds hit 73. He should have more homers and rbis than manny the last 2 years and Ortiz.

I don't know how you cannot give him the MVP award just on his numbers as of right now.

phils are done if pat burrell doesn't start to hit...right now, i would walk howard every time to get to burrell, he is no threat at all

Pat Burrell is the 2nd worst player on the team, next to Leiberthal. You're absolutely right, he is no threat at all.

Lieberthal isnt half bad when he plays 2-3 times a week, obviously he is stealing money at that point though....phils desperately need a third baseman, nunez can't hit for shit and he has had plenty of chances since bell was traded

Dude, give me a break. Do not even try and play the personal angle. He made a completely unoffensive "your mom" joke in passing, it was in no way directed towards you in a malicious manner, and there's no possible way he could have known about Momma Met (if that's true, and if it is I'm sorry). How fair is it to snap at somebody for saying something the equivilent of "your mom goes to college.=?" The only reason this argument got out of control was because you made it that way based on an innocent, sarcastic comment. Knock it off.

Depends if Willis and Cabrera remain Marlins I guess.

You have to think the Phillies will upgrade at 3b, catcher, and get another outfielder.

And they have to bring another consistent starter in because Wolf is as good as gone.

How much do they have to spend this offseason? I don't know how they'll do it with the state of their farm, but bringing in Crede or Fields would be a perfect move for them.

Well if Ramirez declines his option, I'd like them to go after him.

We'd all love Zito, but honestly I don't know how successful he'd be in our park.

Catcher...Bengie Molina may be available, but he's not much of a hitter. I think they may stick it out with Coste and another player sharing time. Coste will not hit .330 but if he can hit .260, but .300 with RISP thats fine.

If they move Burrell, they will re-sign Dellucci and they will have Dellucci, Rowand, Victorino in the outfield. Or maybe the'll move Rowand for a pitcher and keep Shane in center and bring in a power hitting right fielder that bats righty (if they cannot find one to play 3rd).

Yeah Reyes had a career year. Who knows how long he'll keep it up. Also, the all-star starters goto whichever teams vote the most and it is always St. Louis and the Mets.

True..although if theres any other first basemen in the league itll always be those on the team at minimum.
