View Full Version : P.S. Eliot (Official Thread)
I'm sure one of you punk thread regulars had created a P.S. Eliot thread... Oh well, here it is!!
Anyways, i just wanted to post that they have a new EP called 'Living In Squalor' out, plus a donation based digital download of a song that was recorded during the Introverted Romance In Our Troubled Minds sessions called Bruno Is Orange. I think it's a cover.
New EP can be downloaded here http://humpypuzzlepieces.blogspot.com/2010/04/ps-eliot-living-in-squalor.html I'm pretty sure the band have given permission for the blog to have it up for free download. 7" version can be ordered from Freedom School Records (who put out The Ergs!' The Ben Kweller EP, plus a couple of Cheeky records, including the one that Quote Unquote has up) for $5 + $2 shipping here http://www.myspace.com/freedomschoolrecords
Digital download info for that other song is here http://pseliot.blogspot.com/2010/02/bruno-is-orange-digital-download.html
Anyways, i know that there are a few P.S. Eliot fans here :-d If you haven't heard them, give them a listen. Their album from last year landed on a few end of year lists, including some punknews.org staff lists. It's rad! RIYL Lemuria, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Rainer Maria, girl fronted fuzz indie-rock/poppy-punk whatever.

this band was posted on tons of blogs last year. i was surprised it never really caught on. i like them.
They've still made a dent in the punk rock community (doing a Pink Couch Session, and the fact that some staff at punknews.org had the album on end of year lists helped that though), and yeah, i remember seeing them on a lot of indie rock blogs too, but the indie rock loving public never really caught on as much as the punk rock kids, i don't think.
It was the same with Katie's old band The Ackleys though. They had a couple of really great releases that should have been huge, but never really made it big. Probably released them 10 years too late, haha. They would have been more popular in the mid 90's for sure.
I think this next album will turn some heads though. Hopefully.

And has posted that they will be on an upcoming Paper & Plastick Women in Punk Rock compilation!! It's a poem she wrote, so i'm not sure if it's a book or a CD (or both, hopefully).

It's a super lo-fi demo, but the tracks are awesomely written and played, so it doesn't really detract much from it overall. In fact, the lo-fi sound really captures the feeling of two sisters having shitloads of fun playing and recording music. I'd like to hear better recorded songs of theirs one day though, but i'm loving the demo. And i love how it's called Crushfield, and their last name is Crutchfield :-d It's like we've been let in on a little personal joke.

boys fun (http://libranhusband.blogspot.com/2011/02/boys-fun.html)
over the past few years i've developed and obsessed over a hypothesis regarding the male domination in the "big scheme" umbrella of the punk rock counter culture/diy community/whatever. it's been tested and proven (by me) time and time again and no one ever brings it to light. lauren denitzio, a dear friend of mine, recently wrote a piece that was reposted by punknews. it was (big shock) "misunderstood" by punknews readers for the most part. i mean based on my observation, the typical punknews patron is a 15 year old browbeat dick wad, but because the internet can be a conveniently anonymous place for bigots and browbeat dick wads alike, i have to assume that punknews represents the typical "punk". i'm going off on a tangent. let it be known that i have consumed a significant and notably impressive amount of whiskey tonight and it has created a soapbox in which i will stand on and shout to whoever the fuck wants to listen: sexist/bigoted pricks in the punk scene are really just like slighted ex-boyfriends....and THAT is my everlasting two cents. my hypothesis. you confront them, they pull out the lowest of low blows because they're intimidated/rejected/scorned..and while many times they are physically overbearing, they are also mentally and emotionally anxious, inept and scared shitless. it's a hypermasculine defense mechanism. calling punk dudes out for being oppressive and alienating is essentially like breaking up with your boyfriend when you're a freshman in highschool. it is most certainly the "right" thing to do, you just have to be prepared to be called a cunt on the internet.
Also, the Waxahatchee split with Chris Clavin is so rad! Katie's songs are amazing (And Chris's are pretty damn good too). I'm totally in love with the song 'Home Game' right now :inlove: Also, Katie posted the lyrics here http://libranhusband.blogspot.com/2011/02/waxalyrics.html
