Garage rock three piece from Austin, Texas, who make some of the catchiest goddamn music known to man. Free Drugs came out last year, Hippies came out this year, both are fantastic. Discuss.

Gay Human Bones sounds very familiar. I feel like heard it somewhere previously haha.
Anyway, I think this is the first Brian rec thread I've liked in a long time (or maybe ever). Yay.

I don't know if it's random, considering they're part of the same garage revival sound. Free Drugs was pretty good. Hippies has less psych and more subdued songs. I'm not keen on it. Within the gluttony of '00s Garage Revival bands, they're solid.
For those who like them, check out the band Woven Bones. They're essentially the same band, but I like them more and I matter to you (whoever it is that's reading this).

Ah, that makes sense then. I said "randomly" because the music I associate with other music can be quite off sometimes. I actually didn't like Black Lips for the longest time, but they've started sinking in recently. Meaning it's time to check out an album.

Stealin' Brian's thunder, I see!
PS: Are you going to be joining in the High Violet first impressions? I can't remember if you're a fan of them.

But one of their songs is totally in your favorite movie ever and you're just now loving Black Lips?!
Fun aside: So I finally watch (500) Days of Summer, because the last girl I ever dated (and the romance ended really badly when she discovered my sexuality/attraction to men, but it was, yeesh, four years ago and I was still struggling with who I was and had mixed feelings for this person) gave it to me as a gift this past Christmas. We haven't talked in two years and she thought I was the one (she really subscribed to that "one" and soulmate mentality). So, I get this flick in the mail from her address and it's surreal, right? I mean, after no communication, I randomly get this movie in the mail from her as a gift. So I finally get the gumption to watch this movie, and instead of trying to relate it to her and I or what she so clearly wanted to communicate with the movie, all I did was mark out for name drops, songs and band mentions. Joy Division t-shirt, Psychocandy poster in the bedroom, Black Lips playing in the bar scene where [SPOILER]dude hits the guy in the face.
I watched it again obviously. It's okay. I hated the schmaltzy subtext of the flick, but it was mildly humorous and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is super, super hot.

No. I got the invite, but PMed Vinh stating I wouldn't be contributing to the piece because I'm not a huge National fan. I liked Boxer and Alligator, but not nearly as much as it appears others did and I hardly ever revisit the records.

Yeah. I mean, it's not bad by any means, and much of this contemporary Garage Revival is not regarded for its range or between-album reinventions, but Hippies sounds just like Free Drugs without some of the more psych-heavy influence. They're less San Fransisco Shiver and more lo-fi White Stripes here.

Why did you make me read all this shit?! Ugh.
Who knows, the twee-ness of the movie might annoy me when I revisit it in a couple of years haha. But thanks, Todd, thanks, we get that you're so fucking cool and shit.

I also finally watched (500) Days of Summer recently, but it was a much better experience than yours. Long tangential story that no one cares about short: I watched it with a really sweet girl that I'm dating now. So, yeah, guess results may vary. Anyways, I thought the overt "indie" name drops were kind of funny.
Also, Zooey Deschannel make my heart flutter.

Oh, yeah, this band. Not bad.

I imagine this movie would be good to get some play. If I didn't have baggage attached to it, I'd invite the cute guy from the apartment above me to view it with me.
Also, Man Bites Dog is surprisingly good for getting action...which is disturbing(ly awesome).
