Only got the debut self-titled album last night. But it's a strangely interesting & bizarrely brilliant listen that I keep wanting to come back to, already. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, Voice Of Seven Thunders is the new musical project of Rick Tomlinson & Chris Walmsley (previously from Voice Of Seven Woods).
This is a hazy, dusty, psychedelic folk/rock affair, with some Middle Eastern-tinged antics thrown about throughout, largely instrumental, album. Each song melts into the next, carried by the cloudburst of a roaring psychedelic current. Wavy Eastern rhythms & guitar solos scattered across everything, with cantering acoustic guitars & propulsive grooves preventing the sound from ever lapsing into a proggy slumber. Yet, somehow, this all combines together into this hypnotically engaging piece of work.
As bizarre as this album may sound, it's actually really accessible, & could perhaps garner a few fans here.
Their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/voiceofthesevenwoods) has the song "The Burning Mountain", which is a good indicator of the album.
Any fans, share some love & discussion?
