Godspeed! You Black Emperor and Mogwai defined the genre. "East Hastings" and "Auto Rock", respectively, are classics.

This band is incredible. Also recommend Moving Mountains. They mix a bit of emo in there as well and that makes them more accessible.

Im really not feeling this whole post-rock thing. Ive tried to listen to suggested post-rock bands and all it seems like is mellow music for 10 minutes with hardly any lyrics or vocals, just not my thing I guess. I first thought post-rock and prog-rock were the same and noooo they arent. I wanted prog-rock suggestions...oh well, I kinda liked Moving Mountains tho.

If choosing to describe ambient and predominantly instrumental, then I always thought it was considered "post-rock", but if that's not a good term, then I'll just call it "awesomeness, er, rock." ;-)

I don't quite understand your need to be cryptic about it. It's pretty simple really; ambient instrumentation, plus either no or rarely used vocals equals post-rock.

Didn't say she was, but everyone is implying that I'm wrong, so you might as well enlighten me on what you think post-rock is. Bands like Explosions in the Sky, Sigur Ros, MONO, God is an Astronaut, The Album Leaf, these are all bands I consider in that particular genre, and is that wrong? Hmmm....

I was refering to your previous post where you stated that ambient instrumentation and a lack vocals equals post-rock, and that just isn't true. Ultimately it is the use of traditional rock instruments to create a sound that is not typically associated with rock music. It's usually based heavily on the manipulation of timbers and progressions. To use post-rock as a blanket term to encompass all instrumental music is foolish.

I didn't imply that all instrumental music is post-rock; that's what you're not getting. I know that post-rock is the use of traditional rock instruments to create an inordinate sound, and also contains the infiltration of building arpeggios.

Me no estupido

Sorry to project that implication onto you.

I'd agree with what you said in this post, but your previous statement regarding ambient instrumentation and little to no vocals was off the mark.
