I heard an interview with him this morning on NPR, sounded interesting.
I keep meaning to buy it, it's being praised everywhere, even Christians, which considering how some Christians get towards interpretations of Christianity, must mean it's good.

I don't know one Christian who would "praise" a book that denounces Christ to be everything but what the Bible says he is...so they're incorrect.

No less a Christian than Rowan Williams (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rowan_Williams), the Archbishop of Canterbury and leader of the Anglican faith, with 77 million worldwide adherents, has praised the book (http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/apr/03/good-jesus-christ-philip-pullman) (although not unreservedly). Is he wrong?

yes. he is wrong. do you think i would defy somebody just because of their title and disregard how wrong he is?
that's like saying. "China has violated human right issues and have systematically carried out gendercide on their own culture" and have you say "But it's China" for a rebuttal.
Wrong is wrong. and that dude is wrong.
edit: after reading that article, what he says is actually correct, because the only reason why he is "praising" the book is because it inspires more intellectual thinking about the gospel and he hopes it leads people to actually have more faith by looking back at the gospels and have them verify that which the book claims as false or at least fantasized. But he is not "praising" the book in the sense that he enjoys reading a book denouncing Jesus.

They appreciate it as a work of good fiction from a talented author. Far from "denouncing Christ", it seems like it is written as a piece of FICTION, not as something to slander Christ and the Christian faith.
Chill out, bro.

yeah, just like L. Ron Hubbard wrote Dianetics as a work of fiction.
Just like Dan Brown wrote Da Vinci code as a work of fiction.
i'm not so much saying it's wrong that he wrote it, hell, i'll even give it a read, i'm just afraid for all the nimrods that actually think there will be a slight bit of validity to his writings.
point in case, there are people out there who actually believe his "suggestion" of God being the first angel to take the title. This is in his work of fiction.

Just because some people may take it the wrong way, doesn't mean it is not a justified, good piece of fiction in its own right.
Anyway, my original point which you contested was that some Christians who have reviewed the book (on Amazon for instance) have said that it is a great book, and are not offended in any way.
How does any of this take away from the fact that it's a well written, well thought out piece of fiction from a brilliant author? Comparing it to the insanity that is Scientology is amusing to say the least.

they both started out as works of fiction? i don't think it's that much of a stretch to compare the two.

I don't see any cults/"religions" coming from The Da Vinci code, so you can't really compare all three together.
Also, didn't Hubbard actually write Dianetics as a self-help book, not as a work of science fiction which he did before.
Seriously, chill out, this is a fiction book...
