I really love DVD's of show by my favorite band. That is until I read about something that totally kills it. Such as today, I was reading about a Rammstein DVD callled "Vokerball". It took place in France in this old arena, seen here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arena_of_N%C3%AEmes), and it's awesome. And it was awesome till I came across the fact that the close up of the band was taken from a show at Brixton Academy in London.

Anyone else have any DVD's that suck after you find shit out like that? I'd like to know.

I can't think of anything offhand... things like that don't really bother me, I guess I'm more concerned with how well the band performs and if the audio is great. I can see where something like that Rammstein deal would upset someone, but it's never really been an issue for me personally.

I don't mind the concept of a DVD, but I'm not gonna go out and buy one unless there are extra tracks or something. =/ I've only gotten a DVD once, and it was bundled with a signed t-shirt and an extra MP3, so I just think of it as a bonus to what i actually wanted.

The White Stripes and Blur have both just released great documentaries. In the past so have Incubus, Thrice, Thursday, ETID, and Refused.

Performance films: Muse, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Led Zep all have some great great concerts

Music DVDs tend to be something I buy, watch once and then leave on the shelf to look pretty!
Saying that, I really want that long-lost Reuben DVD...

Yeah, but sometimes the performance is made to look good. Like the last RATM DVD that came out was suppose to be the last show they did. But it was a mash up of the two nights, with about 3 songs cut from the true "final setlist". I guess I just feel ripped off when they say like "FILMED AT THE LAST SHOW" when its really not.

How come the Rise Against one was bad?

How come the Rise Against one was bad?

It had the huge chunk of sections in the main part about the non-stereotypical fans of theirs (an old man, a black kid, etc) and it just dragged on as those people were very uninteresting, was very choppy in the way it was done.
Only had about 4 live songs which were filmed terribly, the band interviews were boring

I'm only ever interested in them if it has backstage/touring footage and other extras on top of the live show. Otherwise its really just a watch once and shelve it deal for me, and I'm not spending money just for that.

This. For example, Blink 182 - Urethra Chronicles 2 is a GREAT band DVD.

I love DVDs that have all of a band's music videos. I love Placebo's a lot and I really enjoy No Doubt. But I was disappointed in Garbage's. They're easily my favorite band and I was stoked when they were releasing a DVD with their videos on it. Unfortunately, it left off a bunch of them. I still love it, mainly because of the documentary on it, I just don't love it as much as I thought I would.

I also really enjoy Placebo's live DVD and the Gorillaz live one.

I have Radioheads 'Meeting People is Easy' DVD and that's a good tour biography.
I also have Refused's 'Refused are Fucking Dead' DVD and that one was kinda not really worth the money. Love Refused but the DVD was poor

I collect a music DVD with my favorite bands. Some of that DVD simply, but some really great. For example Iron Maiden's Live After Death, Helloween's High Live, Kreator's Live Kreation, etc. If you can't see perfomance of your fav band alive, there is best way to see on DVD

Best music DVDs I've seen have been Every Time I Die's "Shit Happens", Zao's "The Lesser Lights of Heaven", 311's "Enlarged to Show Detail" and Botch's "061502". The Botch DVD isn't informative like the others, but it's Botch's last performance ever. How can you go wrong with that?

My friend burned me a copy of the A Day To Remember DVD, but I haven't gotten around to watching it.

The other DVD's I've seen, like Armor For Sleep, Taking Back Sunday and Incubus, I've felt have been kinda weak and not worth the money.

The Tegan and Sara live dvd was amazing. Also, the Dashboard Confessional MTV Unplugged was good, but only if they cancelled out the audience on some songs.

I like music dvds as long as there are interviews/ backstage footage, things of that sort. I wouldn't buy one just to watch the performance. In that case, i'd just go see them myself.

Anything Every Time I Die releases on DVD is borderline Oscary-worthy.

That sucks. Maybe they were just trying to get other people who didn't know interested? Glad I didn't buy this for my friend when it came out. Although it might be time for them to do something.

Exactly. Totally agree with you which is why I was so let down because it wasn't really the true performance. Hopefully I'll see them one day.

I haven't seen the ADTR one, but a friend of mine said they do a spoof of Real World and its great.

But what if you can't go see them? Or better yet, in the case of my two favorite DVD's, one by Coheed and Cambria and the other by Thursday, were both filmed at a venue I used to go to a lot and it brings some memories for me. And most of the DVD's have interviews and stuff like that.

There's a real lack of information and storytelling. It's very short. I just thought they could have packed more into it.

As I Lay Dying's DVD "This is Who We Are" was really good it showed a history of the band and how they changed and what they went through and also had live performances on it. It's really entertaining and informative I like it alot
