View Full Version : Roman candle fight - with video! (And general firework appreciation thread)

It's a little old, but I just rediscovered it. I'm the one on the left who scores a direct hit. :-)
Provide stories, experiences, anecdotes, and opinions concerning these insanely fun explosive devices. If your state doesn't allow fireworks or has a pussification law enacted in which only non-explosive fireworks are permitted--write to your congressman or congresswoman!

I've always wanted to have a Roman Candle fight but never have :(
We bought fireworks for Canada day a couple years back and it was dope.

Every summer my family and I go to Myrtle Beach, and each night (Since fireworks are legal there) People would being massive amounts of fireworks and fire them all off down the length of the beach.
It's better than any professional fireworks display I've ever seen.

Awesome idea for a thread.
Summer time = fireworks time.
4th of July is easily my favorite holiday, too.

This looks like fun.
Be careful, bung. People may get offended that you're showing videos of people being physically harmed and then get this thread locked, too.

No fireworks allowed in Illinois. My friends and I messed around with some in Michigan a few years ago but after almost getting nailed by one, I'll leave it to the professionals. Not worth getting my fingers blown off or massive burns to look at something for five seconds and think, "Ooh, lights."

When I was 17, a dry ice bomb (in 2 liter) went off in my hand. Not pleasant and won't fuck with it again.

Each year my family has a big party and does a pretty big firework show on the 4th of July for most of the neighborhood to see, which my uncle does all the shooting off of the fireworks... well, last year was an epic fail to say the least.
Basically, he has this one firework set up where it was like 8-12 tall cannon things but they were skinny, and something caused them to fall.... like one going off early or something (probably some terrible set up or something, or some carelessness), and it caused ALL of them to fall over and shoot toward everyone that was spectating. Not only did it hit our house but it caught our trampoline on fire (and practically ruined it to where we have a new one now) AND put a lot of burn markings on our deck and even hit some people... it was like a damn tornado drill with people ducking and shit.
It was scary shit.

How much did you put in it? I used to have all my used water bottles saved (and as a runner, I had around 700 or so in a less than 2 years). I spent $50 on dry ice and we made a good 300 dry ice bombs or so. All you need is a little bit of dry ice on the bottom and then you could technically just top off the bottle there. It'd take forever to melt and blow up though, so we just put some water in it (and i said some) to speed up the process, top it off real quick. If you add too much dry ice or too much water thats where it's going to blow up in your hand. If you do it right then the bottle won't expand too fast and you'll usually be able to tell when it's going to blow up. We were having fun holding them until they were about to blow up and then we'd throw them at things (including eachother) so they'd explode on impact. I had a gatorade bottle go off in my hand once though, that was brutal. the water bottle ones never caused too much pain (and we usually had gloves on for safe measure). but when i was doing the gatorade, I didn't have any gloves on. the plastic exploded and litterally went around my hand and cut into the other side of it. definitely was not a fun experience, but overall if you have gloves and safety glasses on then it's all in good fun.

you gotta buy a few smoke bombs and throw em in the middle of the battlefield, no lie. this is all me and my friends did last summer.

We put a good inch or 2 of ice down at the bottom so it was enough I guess. Only gloves when we were breaking apart the ice and putting it in. Otherwise no gloves and no safety glasses. The plastic tore through my shirt so it was a pretty gnarly experience at 2am. There were def some good times though aside from that experience.

Evidently in southern Illinois grammar isn't huge either.

we had a roman candle fight too! Also, we put one of those water dynamite's in a glass container and lit it. We ran and it exploded like a grenade. Almost killed us. haha

Barney: OK, I've got it. Here, put on this eye patch.
(Barney throws Ted an eye patch)
Ted: Why?
Barney: The ultimate ice breaker.
(Barney puts on his eye patch)
Barney: A bunch of cobras got loose in Central Park. You and I are jogging, training for the Death Valley Iron Man. No big deal, we do it every year. Suddenly we see these snake bastards sneaking towards a little baby. Not on our watch. You grab the kid, I strangle six cobras with my bare hands. Women of New York, one at a time please.
Ted: So, what are the eye patches for?
Barney: We got bit.
Ted: On the eye?
Barney: Yes.
Ted: Both of us?
Barney: They're different eyes. I don't see why this bugs you. Patch up!

I've been in a four man free-for-all roman candle fight before. It was awesome. My friend's Dad has his own textile business on their acreage property and we went into the industrial part of their land and did it on the fourth of July.
Most awesome/painful thing we ever did back there.

The kid and his friend both deserve worse for playing that awful song as the background to that video.

Nothing more American than pointing Roman Candles at your friends and blowing shit up with fireworks! Those kind of fireworks are illegal here, but there are about three or so houses around me that have professional shit and we're never really bothered about what we light off. Good thing there are a few Indian reservations around here too.
