Says the guy with two posts. Louder Now is nowhere near as good an album as TAYF, plain and fucking simple. I don't give two shits that it got them mainstream success, in fact I'm happy for them -- they worked their asses off and were able to capitalize on it and make some money in a cutthroat industry. That has nothing to do with the fact that Louder Now was just a mediocre album with a few good singles. Is MakeDamnSure a catchy song? Of course it is. Does it have a sweet video? Yep. But it's nowhere as good as the best songs off TAYF.

To me, TAYF songs were deeper. If only because we knew where at least some of the songs were coming from (the whole BN-TBS debacle). TAYF flows so well and I could listen to it on repeat all day.

LN is great, and I adore makedamnsure and Spin. But it has a couple songs I just never got behind.

I just wish TAYF was produced better.

John Nolan is a greater talent than Fred Mascherino who is a greater talent than Matt Fazzi. I prefer Shaun Cooper to Matt Rubano, though they are near the same level of skill. Yet, in my opinion LN is TBS's crowning achievement so far. TAYF is a close second. WYWTB is a close third, and NA is a somewhat distant fourth. When I listen to LN, I hear an album that is packed with a sense of urgency, has innovative, catchy riffs that manage to stay true to their orignal style and strong lyrical content that had a new sense of optimism, yet fans of a stellar debut find it hard to accept anything progressive on a third, fourth, fifth album. The fact that it's positive and straight forward instead of focused on harsh social realities like TAYF and much of WYWTB was and still is a problem for some, and it may be a problem for some when the new record comes out as it will most likely be more optimistic than the band's early work.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying and everything you said is rather well written. I just favor TAYF. It hits me like no other album. I love all their albums though, even NA. TYAF feels more like raw energy to me. LN is probably their most focused power so far, but just falls flat in a couple songs for me.

It was a tough call with me. I was between You're So Last Summer and My Blue Heaven. Last Summer is the first song i heard by them and the song that got me into them, while Blue Heaven constantly to this day gives me the occasional goosbumps when i listen to it. I always felt like that song was one of the most passionate things i ever heard Adam sing. My vote went to Last Summer though.

Also i had my own music video idea for Blue Heaven, something about two people in some sort of mental ward and separated by a wall, with the band playing on the roof. By the end of the song the hospital has collapsed and the two finally end up together. I dunno, always made sense to me :-p
