Hate them. But, alas, they are a part of life and I have some coming up soon.

What are people's best ways of coping (besides the obvious "revise alot")?? Best methods of revision etc?
I personally have never been a big note taker...it's done me fine so far. I just have to get myself "in the zone" I guess, where I can actually somewhat enjoy the focus....

You?

I do notes, generally, either copying things out just onto lined paper, or doing it on a bigger piece of paper with the bare facts. I also do questions from the textbook/revision guides, if I have them.
I really don't like starting revision too early, though. My psychology exam isn't until the 30th June, yet some people in my class have already started revising - I think that's crazy. I can't concentrate on it or find any worth in it if the exam is still too far away/we haven't finished the syllabus yet. I start two weeks before, about.

Your first exam is on the 30th? That's my last one. I've got a politics resit in about two weeks and then a fairly big gap.

The way I do it is by typing up my years notes and then writing them out over and over, each new set having less information than the last. I think I need to start doing more past questions but I think that would only really work for economics. I do history and politics and they are more just brute learning haha.

Fuck, I hate exams so much.

That's interesting, over here it basically goes like this: There tends to be kids who have ADD and are prescribed Adderall, but often don't even use it by the time they're 18. They keep the prescription though, and sell the pills to kids and make a profit, and this spreads like wildfire during final exams.

Hey I'm not into popping pills though, so this is just what I've observed.

I wouldn't judge.
ADD/ADHD, all those sort of things aren't really diagnosed over here as much as they are in america. America really does have a pill popping culture and it is something I find sort of strange. Instead of someone being a bit down, it's depression. Instead of a kid not paying attention, it's ADD.

It isn't proscribed for having ADD it is given who people who are not paying attention, because not makes you focus like high doses of speed given the name Adderal. Good idea is to say from for midterms and final week and they double to almost $10 a pill.

Yeah I have only 2 finals this coming week, and then I'm done for the summer. I already finished a few early which helps a lot. They leave the library open until 3 A.M. during finals week, so I'll probably end up spending a good amount of my life there.

No, no, that's my last exam! My first is on the 7th June, then the only other I have is on the 8th.

I don't like past papers/questions, personally. I know they're good and I do a few, but for bio and chem, we've been given huge booklets of them and I'm like "fuck that!".

I hate most exams, but psychology is a love/hate thing because I feel so fucking accomplished when I've actually managed to memorise all the names/dates/studies/theories/criticisms etc etc; I feel like a champion. And also, because I'm ace at psychology, so I don't mind as much.

I can't believe you don't do past questions and you are doing two sciences. I think that's crazy.

I'm the lucky type who can completely ignore my exams and then do really well. I remember having to do a test in 8th grade where we had to put each state in the correct spot on the map, and I was one of the only ones who got 100% even though I did absolutely no studying.

If I do try to study though, I end up psyching myself out and I do pretty bad. So my strategy is to always do absolutely nothing.

Chemistry and biology are AS, but psychology is A2. I do some past questions, because it would be silly not to, but I couldn't do paper after paper after paper (especially as you're going to end up answering some of the same questions over and over); they just don't keep me interested/focused.

And I did think about being modest, but then thought fuck it, I AM ace at psychology, so why not say so?

Basically it isn't for ADD but the pill is a legal form of speed. Also college students want it so they don't have to sleep and they can study instead.

And when things are overdiagnosed, its because doctors dont give a shit and arent listening to their patients and are just throwing pills at them, and people either get fed up with that, or they take advantage of it and use those pills during exams when they really need them or something.

So have you sat the entire A2 in psy because you are so good? haha.
That's the whole point of doing loads of them! If you have seen it already and then it comes in the exam, hey presto! Done that 10 times at least.

I am judging the general way that drugs are handed out in the United States compared to the UK. I think it is because the majority of healthcare is (was?) private and so doctors have an incentive to.
I wasn't judging the guy if he took it to help him.

I'm getting my second bachelors right now and something I find useful is the LiveScribe pen. It comes with a notebook, records your conversations in class regarding the exam and has a pretty nice desktop manager that uploads your notes & audio files automatically. It's $150 but pays for itself in the long run.

damn... thats really late. my last exam is this monday. but in terms of studying? i just go over notes and notes, then take my friends notes and look over those. then i outline, then study groups. it seems a bit intense, and a bit repetitive, which it is, but it works. just don't study too much at a time. i usually study for a few hours, then take a break for an hour or 2. then go back. after a couple hours, i can't concentrate. and for this monday exam, i started reviewing on tuesday.

I wouldn't put the blame on the doctors, I'd put it on the parents who are too lazy or busy to discipline their children and so they say something is wrong with the child to get drugs to make them behave. Patients can always refuse treatment and get a second opinion, but they don't because they want the drugs.

Just because, I agree with your judgment of what you're talking about it.

I mean, you can blame it on the health care system, the doctors, the parents, well..just about damn anything. I just think it's funny that in the state I live in, the second biggest drug-related killer is Oxycontin. Pills should not be that widespread at all..

Thank god you posted this, I had no idea what they were talking about until you posted. I assumed "revising" was some form of studying where they would rewrite their notes or something, I was totally confused.

When it comes to studying for finals for me, all I really do is cram the night before for a few hours. It pisses all my friends off, but I generally get A's on all my tests. I'm just naturally good at taking tests though, I passed 7 AP tests in high school and got a 2020 on my SATs without really doing more than 5 hours of studying for any of them...

for the end of my second semester of college that i just finished on friday, i found that i had such a wide variety of exams that my studying patterns changed a lot. for my intro to econ class i did approximately 10 practice tests that take 1.5 hours to do and took notes from a book. comparatively for my world war 2 history class i had to memorize pretty much the entire course of the war (major battles, conferences, people, operations, etc) and also arguments from a bunch of different authors we've read this semester. needless to say that studying was entirely different, i made a timeline and then flash cards and then just a shit ton of memorization and reading up on things i was spotty on. i didn't have an exam in history of animation (final paper) and my science and literature class exam was on 4/21

Haha no. I've been to doctors that have threatened to stop seeing me if I didnt take pills that they threw at me. I've been to doctors who threw pills at me and said I was depressed after I said that I was just tired a lot, I've had the same doctor say that I was bipolar and give me anti-psychotics and mood stabilizers when I said that I couldnt sleep after she gave me some other pills, she was a regular doctor by the way, not a psychiatrist or anything. What do you think doctors do? They are called MDs because they are Medical Doctors who use medication to treat disorders/diseases. If you didn't want medication why would you go to a doctor? In your case it isn't lazy parents true, but you seeking out the wrong professional to help you. If you had a problem with sleep and wanted to know what was the cause of the problem instead of medicating it you should have gone and seen a psychologist not a regular doctor. The doctors aren't "lazy" they are doing their jobs. And again you always have the right to refuse treatment and get a second opinion even if the doctor "threatens" you.

Finished exams a week and a half ago. Now three days until I'm back to school for the summer term. :-(

To revise, it depends on the class. Something like Political Science or English I'll wait until two days before the exam, while with something like Chemistry or Math I give myself a week before it starts. Has worked for me perfectly fine. I was right near the top of my graduating class for high school and currently have a 3.6 CGPA in university.

I am in my third year of college and still haven't figured out an affective way for me to study besides taking notes and re-writing them a bunch of times usually can only do it 2 or 3 times before i get bored and have to do something else thats not school related. I strive to get A's in my classes so i dont have to worry about taking finals because finals suck.

i got done with my finals a week ago. i had two exams and a sign language video to make. for the written exams i took every note i had written for the class over the course of the semester and wrote them again in one night, the night before the tests. i am pretty sure i got a's on my exams cause i got a's in both the classes. :D the sign language vid i just recorded myself signing I Will Come to You by Hanson.

Anybody seen Fast Times at Ridgemont High? The part where they have that wacky science teacher who never pays attention, so the kid puts his sunglasses on the desk with notes perfectly cut to fit into the rims?

Yeah, I did that once in a class called Pop Music: USA. It was a huge lecture class of like 200 people. Fuck that boring class. Also once, in the same class, I copied the girl's scantron that was sitting next to me dot for dot and got an A- on the test.

I guess that doesn't really count as studying, though.

Yeah I have only 2 finals this coming week, and then I'm done for the summer. I already finished a few early which helps a lot. They leave the library open until 3 A.M. during finals week, so I'll probably end up spending a good amount of my life there.

our library is open pretty much 24 hrs (i think a few of the floors close at 12 a few nights a week, though), so that's really convenient.

2 orgo finals this week. next week: history, psyc, and anatomy.
i plan my days - to the hour - on what to study on what day. but that's about it though, i can never perfectly follow it. i get about an hour or 2 behind schedule.

i do this also. helps me to stay on track, or else i'll just be all over the place studying i think. this is especially helpful when you have 2 exams in the same day...

as for my study habits, i try and keep up with the material throughout the semester so that i have less to do during finals time. this works best for classes that aren't cumulative.... also i don't watch TV and limit my computer time. that also helps a lot.

I always try to type out a study guide for my notes. Also, for Literature tests, there's not much you can do to study other than read the books, memorize the authors' names, and know who the main characters are.

But I've also found that being in the right "test taking mood" is by far the most important part to taking a test (at least for me it is). I'll always walk to my class and be listening to music. I'll choose whichever band I'm really into at the moment and try to get myself into a sort of zone (this is also the kind of thing myself and I guess other people like to do before sports and similar things). Once I'm in this zone and feeling good about the test, I just want to get to the classroom, sit down, and get started on the test and keep that good feeling going.

Yeah except my most recent doctor who threw pills at me wasnt a "doctor" she was an anp if you want to get detailed. Yeah the primary care "doctor" did nothing to help me and every time I tried to ask for a specialist she was too lazy to look in a book and give me a referral.
But yes I have had the experience refusing treatment, and then being left high and dry without even a referral for another primary care doctor before.

They're way normal over here! A guy in my chem class is re-sitting an exam he got an A in, just to see if he can do any better and get the best mark he can! We have to pay for them, but it's pretty much par for the course that you'll re-sit at least one exam.

I actually respect how they get diagnoses early there. It took me five years to be diagnosed for what I have and during those times I had a really hard time trying to explain to everyone what I'm going through. Everyone thought I was just being hard and it made everything worse.

I typically don't study that much when it comes to exams. If I study too much, I forget all of the material. I'll usually look over all of my notes the night before, and then glance through them one more time before the test. It's weird, any time I would study in high school I would do worse than if I forgot about the test until the day of.

I take notes word for word. In some classes I take the notes but read the textbook.
For my Nursing class we have a 3-girl study group and we'll go to the library or Starbuck's and study.

My final was today so we met twice, once last week and once yesterday. I just took my NUR 139 final and I think I did okay. I want my grade already! :-(

Good job in your course! I'm in the Nursing program here so in order to "pass" you need a C+ in each class. :-(

You're almost there though! I just had my last final last Thursday, so I understand your stress. And your nursing school uses pluses and minuses? My school just uses the letter, even in the nursing school.

My Dad just asked me if I was having trouble seeing the computer screen and I had to reply "No, I'm falling asleep."

I haven't slept in 3 days because of work/studying lol. Yesterday I worked 5am-2pm, went straight to school for studying for like 5 hours, came home, had a veggie burger (1/2 study break), studied until 11, had my test at 8, now off to work again. Finals week suuuucks. So you're on summer break? You lucky dog!

Edit: you can tell i'm really tired because that post is just a jumble of nonsense.

That's really stupid. I mean, there's a one point difference between a plus an a minus, so I don't understand the point of having them. And I know it's difficult, but you need to try to sleep a little! It's not going to do you any good running on empty. :/ And yeah, I am on summer break. It was weird not having to leave for class at 7:15 this morning!

Need to say this somewhere, because I'm on top of the world right now. Just killed the fuck out of my Interpersonal Comm final. If I don't get a perfect score, I will honestly be let down.

I just assume people I don't know will accept my bragging better than my friends would.
