I've had about four really bad sunburns in my life. When I was in middle school, I got a one that was so bad, I had to miss two days of school because I couldn't bend my legs or put a backpack on. It was awful. It doesn't help that I'm about as pale as Casper and I burn extremely easily.

When I started my job as a lifeguard again last month, I was super red for a day, then the red turned to an amazing dark tan.....Since then I've been burn proof lol...But yes, I hate sunburns with a passion, more so for the peeling than the pain itself.

My ears got so burnt on a fishing trip to Canada when I was younger that the tops actually turned black/crispy and flaked off. I got a pretty bad burn at Warped '05 in Minnesota but my friend had it far worse and spent most of the day in the med tent due to heat. I fucking love summer but it can be rough. Most recent burn was last summer at a blink-182 outdoor venue that had a lot of local opening bands and the gates opened at like 1 in the afternoon. That was fucking amazing but they literally had water tanks on wheels brought in, was pretty nuts. I almost hate the sunburns I get from trips like that the most, where it's near the lining of your clothing and it's irritated by shirts for days on days.

Just had one of my first memorable cases of Sunburn... im 18, and yes I am not lying. usually I get red, but never to the point of pain. It has happened before maybe like once (from Warped tour or Ozzfest) where itd be uncomfortable, but this time....after Bamboozle... I wouldnt even bend my fucking neck.. Thats the first time its ever happend to me, and it was most unpleasant. Me neck and nose peeled a little as well which was almost an equally unpleasant experience

I only tan if I make a conscious effort to do it by putting on a load of suncream. I normally just burn in the english sun without realising it. It's alright over here, was much nicer earlier.

05/09/10, 01:28 PM
I usually get super tan in the summer, due to working outside for at least 8 hours a day. It's really hard to not get a sunburn at least one time, but I put on a ton of sunscreen and/or sunblock. Never really got to the point of peeling. This summer I'm going to try and wear some extra protection like a big ass hat or something haha

That said, when my friends complain about being sunburnt from going tanning everyday I cringe..and I have to hold myself back from calling them stupid.

Me to the tenth. I'm white as a freaking sheet, thanks to my grandmother being irish and getting her genes. I have to use SPF 45-50 to stop burns completely. I tend to just leave my shirt on while at the beach.

The first time i go to the beach every year i don't put sunscreen on and let myself burn(i don't burn bad). Then this burn turns into a tan and i don't have a problem with sunburn the rest of the year. You gotta get the base tan down and then your fine. Or just learn to use sunscreen people.

Haha it's so easy for me to hate on sunburn.
One summer I spent every other day swimming and boating. I burned my back and shoulders so bad it peeled for 2 weeks. Crazy pain. It’s suicide for me to go outside without wearing at least SPF 45 or 50. Way to go Swedish ancestors!!

I just got back from the beach and only got sunburned a tiny bit. Thank you, Italian heritage!!

But if you do get a bad sunburn, put conditioner on it. I know it sounds weird, but it really does help a lot, especially with the later peeling. My cousin's boyfriend told me about this, and I use it every time I get burnt. It works better for me than aloe and other lotions.

I just went for a tan today to start working on a base for the summer. Otherwise, my poor ghostly German skin just fries. I used an Entropy bed today and though it's a bit more expensive, it's totally worth it! It filters out most of the harmful UVB rays, and tans your 3rd layer of skin, not your top layer so it lasts longer and you don't burn!

The idea of cooking from the inside out is slighty frightening, but it still seems a bit better than regular tanning beds, and if it gives me a head start in preventing a summer burn, then bonus points!

Also, I have a love/hate relationship with peeling. I kind of love peeling my skin after a burn, but it's so disgusting. Also, I effing HATE when other people try to peel it for you....It pains me just to think about that....

I started this thread on the first day I got really sunburned last year. Alas, I see it revived on this day, the first day I got really burnt this summer. I was able to delay 2011's virgin burn to this late date via a stringent sunscreen ritual when I went out on the water until I built up a base tan, but it nary could have been avoided before it was too late. I had a pretty bad sunburn after warped tour this year. I put some sunscreen on (probably wasn't the best either cause it's a few years old..) anyway, it didn't go away for about 3 weeks. I still had part of the burn on my chest and back but thats just cause I wore a tank top with a vneck. I never have a sunburn on my legs but the backs of them were red and my feet aswell. It was so bad that I didn't wanna go out for weeks and cringed when the sun was shining in the windows of my house.

Worst part about this was when I went out a few days ago when my burn was basically cleared, I ended up walking 2 hours straight and ended up getting a sunburn again. Didn't expect to be out that long. Needless to say, I haven't been wearing tanktops out and I'm like slobbing sunscreen on me. Don't wanna have to go through that again!
