i used to most of the time, but now I hardly do. i enjoy the show so much more not have to carry it around and stuff. i'll just take a few pictures with my crappy phone.

No, but I am am going to start.

sometimes. Only in the summer cause I always video document my summers and make a "docu" out of it all...but other than that, no its obnoxious when people bring their cameras to shows.

Yeah, although I feel like a tool when I take a lot of pictures.

Said no, only cause I don't actually own a camera

For the last 5-6 shows I've been to, I've brought my camera and taken pictures/video and taken the setlist down on my phone. I then write a review about the show. For some damn reason haha. Not sure why.

Used to all the time but I haven't in at least a year.

Only if it's a sit-down kinda thing like the Ben Folds concert I went to in October. Otherwise I'm usually moshing so I can't carry a camera

TotalCollapse
05/10/10, 10:51 AM
If the concert's at this one venue where I know I'll be standing on the balcony, then I'll bring my camera. Otherwise I don't because I'm afraid I'll drop it and it'll break.

never.

Nope, never have. I would much rather just enjoy the show than worry about trying to get (good) pictures. For some people, trying to get pictures may not be a burden, but for me it is an unwelcome distraction at the very least.

Just one or two shitty phone pictures to remember the night

Rarely. Well, I usually have it along in my purse, but I rarely actually use it.

didwhat77times
05/10/10, 08:29 PM
I just take a picture or two with my phone. They're never amazing, but I like to have something extra to remember the show by.
And I'm 5' 1.5" so I'd never be able to get anything spectacular with a real camera.

Always, i like having some kind of document showing it really happened, particularly after a show so good you have trouble believing it happened :-p

A7XXX
05/10/10, 10:11 PM
I'm quite content with the pictures on my phones. Bringing in a camera is so troublesome; I would have to worry about it for the whole show

aradiantsunrise
05/10/10, 11:37 PM
Usually depends on the band.

ill get their DVD if i wanted to watch it through a screen

maybe a phone pic with my mates in it

this.im am really into photography so the couple of times that i actually have brought my camera to shows i spent the whole time focusing on my pictures and not on the band. kind of defeats the purpose for me.

05/11/10, 09:52 AM
I haven't done this and I never will, just because I prefer live the moment and have a story to tell later. Videos can seize the show but they'll never match the emotions I felt during the show

drawndead
05/12/10, 09:09 AM
nah the person i'm usually with has one so thats what's up

golferpunk1
05/12/10, 09:38 AM
This was just recently on my mind actually. I just saw flogging molly and the kid in front of me found it necessary to film the entire show in 30 second clips on his phone. It was ridiculous and very annoying. It was a crappy phone too so I doubt he'll ever watch those videos.

demondays524
05/14/10, 05:01 PM
Definitely. I take a ton of pictures at shows. Sometimes video. But lately I've gotten kind of sick of carrying it around, so that could change soon.

Kinda hard when you're jumping about like a madman

Hamlet
05/15/10, 05:27 AM
Yes, mainly as proof that I was at the show, and for photos, not videos. Unless you're in the front row it's unlikely you'll get any really good photos of the band with a compact camera, and you will NEVER get any good audio if you take video. Just enjoy the song while you're there and take a few quick snaps in between for memories.

Inadvisable if you plan to go anywhere near the pit.

Formatfun
05/15/10, 06:35 PM
I don't take pictures, 'cause I know if I want to remember something, I can just go on Youtube and see video from the show most likely. Or pics somewhere.

sometimes is the same as depends on the band. and they have basically the exact same # of votes. i voted depends on the band. which translates to sometimes.

I used to take pictures all the time, but then I realized I usually never do anything with them. Now, I usually only bring it to all day festivals.

I always bring my camera to shows!
It's for the memories to look back upon. Sometimes I even record full sets.

What is your avatar?

Also, always bring my camera. It's cool to catch the band rippin' some tasty licks, or doing any other interesting antics. Got a video of Minus the Bear last Saturday, hollering at security to drag some drugged up guy out of the crowd and boot him out.

I really hate that I don't because the show that I went to before the last, which was some sort of thing called Zeitgeist, I went to this Black Keys show and it was awesome!!! I hate that I didn't have a camera at the time because now all I have is a ticket stubb and memories and I had to leave BEFORE the encore!!! But,overall, it was a great experience. :)

xapplexpiex
05/19/10, 03:26 PM
I always do, but I don't use it much. I get so caught up in the performance, that I don't want to miss a moment of it. And if I'm not caught up in the performance, then why capture the moment on film, right?

xapplexpiex

Always. I scrapbook. 'Nuff said.
My stepmom scrapbooks. It seems like a giant time-consumer. She takes three hours to do one page. She has parties and the whole nine yards. Seems intense.

I like to enjoy the emotional and mental ride of the show rather than taking pictures of it. I feel like I get a much more personal experience.

I know how she feels. I take like three hours to do one page, too. But they're always kick ass! Parties? Am I invited?

Sure, stranger. You'd be at a party full of forty-somethings though.

I usually have one to take a few shots, but it's usually hard to get good shots and I don't see the point of obsessively trying to get good pics when I can just enjoy the concert. I find I usually have a better time when I don't worry about taking pics or just take a few during a song I'm not that into.

Technically my brother's dad's ex wife. And oh yeah, when she brought out the glitter, glue, pictures, and funky fabric, we knew not to bother her.

i almost always do, but i only take pictures through a song or two then put it away. it's pointless to watch the entire show through the camera.

05/21/10, 01:17 AM
Since I am a photographer, I always have a camera on me. When I go to shows, I typically take my camera in, depending though on the bands/how much I really wanna see them/get quality frames. If I don't take my camera in, I bring my Flip Cam in and let that run to put stuff up on youtube and such.

I do. I try to get the standard kind of pictures out of the way as soon as possible, then enjoy they show.
But if anything else really cool happens I'll still have it right there with me.

Every single show I've been to in the last few months I've taken my camera but then again I always have photopass's so that might explain it but before I started doing concert photos for websites i never took it and hated the people that did. Nowadays i try and stay out of the way with my camera so I'm not a distraction to the people watching the show.

Tristan Needler
05/21/10, 03:44 PM
I don't, but my girlfriend does and makes me take pictures because I'm taller. I like just watching the show though. Memories are enough for me. People take too many pictures these days.

Not really, no. Every once in a great while I'll have it on me, but I don't take pictures during the show.

I don't take my camera, but I usually take a picture or two with my phone. I set a max at 5 pictures though. I want to enjoy the show with my own eyes and not through my screen and worry about getting a billion pictures that look pretty much the same.

I like have pictures/video of the show. However, I'm always too lazy/forgetful to get any. But that's what Google and Youtube are for, right?

stevenisfading
06/06/10, 12:05 PM
I always see bands/artists/groups that I would love to have pictures/videos of so I always take my camera unless I forget or something happens.

frenchatticus
06/14/10, 05:28 AM
Never, for a few reasons:

1) Too much of a hassle. Did you come to a show to mosh or to take pictures?
2) Just have fun with the actual experience, and if you have to make a trip to Google Images when you get home then go for it.
3) I am not a girl.
4) If you have to take a picture, get your phone out for a few seconds.

Edit: All of this in reference to point and shoots. If you're an actual photographer then you may have chosen the second option to my first question, and thus deserve to have a camera at a show.
