I'm a NCAA Fooball player (possibly Madden) and that's it. I don't have any Blu Ray DVD's but might in the future. Suggest what GB PS3 I should buy. Thanks in advance for any help

Don't buy a video game system if all you're interested in is NCAA Football.

Just doesn't seem to be worth a $250+ investment, but I'm also not you, haha. Honestly though, if you pick up a PS3, try and get into some of the other games out there for it, who knows, you may be a closet gamer and didn't even know it.

For now, go with the $299 120GB version. It'd be MORE than enough for what you want. Honestly, I'm a 360 gamer, but that's the version I'd get.

Buy the cheapest PS3 version you can find. You've said yourself that you don't really care about more than the absolute minimum (playing that one NCAA game) so buy the least expensive one you can find or buy one off Craigslist.

I did the same thing, my parents got me one for xmas...... I only use it for Madden, GTA 4, Rock band (occasionally), and blu ray......... just get the lowest gb cause unless ur an all out gamer u dont need that much memory.

I love my PS3 but if i were u id look into XBOX 360 as well....... only reason i chose PS3 was free online and blu ray......... but Xbox is way cheaper

I own both a ps3 and xbox 360 and I get much more use out of the ps3. Just the blu ray/dvd upconvert player is worth it. You won't need a DVD/blu ray player if you get a ps3. Plus if the only game you like is NCAA then you can play on playstation network for free where as xbox live you have to pay for.

Get the cheapest one. There is a firmware coming out soon that allows you to play 3D blu-ray discs when they get released.

I bought a 360 first for Halo, then I bought a PS3 for MGS4. Both systems have their ups and downs. If you're just getting it for sports games (which are released on both consoles at the same time), just get whichever console is cheaper.

Between the PS3 and the Xbox, I think the PS3 is way better. Not only for the games (personal opinion here, but I'm not really a fan of Halo and Gears) but also because blu ray is getting really popular, so it's nice to have a BD Player in your home, isn't it?

i'm in a similar situation. i rarely play games but i love em. you aren't going to need more than 120GB ever. that's a ton of hard drive space to begin with and getting the larger one would be pointless. go with the 120GB.

ActorInThisPlay
05/11/10, 01:50 PM

if you are a casual gamer, the PS3 is by far the better system to buy. the blu-ray player is great and will bring more use and get you more bang for your buck. it also has Netflix Instant streaming and a web browser. the 360 in my opinion is only for more hardcore gamers that can justify spending $50 a year on XBOX Live and if you don't plan on getting that, there really is no reason to get a 360 over a PS3 especially when all you really want to play is NCAA Football.

What this guy said as far as the blu ray/dvd stuff is true,

PS3 also has MLB's The Show, exclusive, which is a great baseball game, if you are also into baseball. Honestly if you are only into sports games, might as well go with the Ps3 because it has the DVD player, so it won't just sit around like the 360. I own both, use them about the same. 360 has more people I know with them, but does have the cost of XBL, and all the accessories. The PS3 has free net and you can use a bluetooth headset for your headset.

If you can afford it, and to you its worth only getting however little games, then I say buy a ps3. I have both and use the playstation way more. If your looking for online play don't let the "xbox live is better and cheaper" argument fool you. In the end with the adapter and memberships, its not cheaper, and PSN is making its way past it.

and also the fact that the 360 120GB Elite is $300 and so is the 120GB PS3. They are the same price so I don't understand why anyone would say the 360 is cheaper in the first place and then once you factor in XBOX Live and other stuff, it's more expensive. I guess you could go with the Arcade version but that has no hard drive so it seems kinda pointless to me.

I agree, I mainly got mine for the Mass Effect series, Splinter Cell, and Alan Wake. I was so surprised on all the extra things I needed to get, to have the same playing experience that was free on the Playstation. I do enjoy Xbox a lot, but PS3 > X360

yeah I have both too and PS3 is the better system. The only reason I got a 360 was to play online with my friends because most of them have a 360. All the little things make the PS3 better too, blu-ray of course, no pop out tray, runs so much quieter, wireless rechargeable controllers are standard, usb ports, replaceable hard drive, bluetooth capabilities, built in wireless, free online play, and it just looks nicer. I love my XBOX too for what it is but it is definitely the inferior system. I do think XBOX Live is better but you have to pay for it.

Opinion on why that's the route I should go?

well 120 gb gives you quite a bit of space; while 80 would still likely be enough, the wide range of options you have with the ps3 such as directly downloading games and obtaining downloadable content for games as well as the possibility of using the ps3 as a hard drive for music and movies means it's never a bad thing to have more space. So with 120 you're getting a decent deal moneywise and probably the right amount of space for your purposes

(I didn't bother explaining why ps3 is better than xbox since you already seem to be decided on a ps3 but I can explain if you want)

phillipjacob
05/11/10, 06:25 PM
lets think about this. how much do blu ray players cost.
subtract what the average one cost from the price of a ps3

and theoretically you're paying what 150 for the ps3.

i know its all one package but ps3 is better deal in the long run
if you dont play a lot of video games but like watching movies

Well it's easy you like NCAA which will have online play why pay an extra $50 a year to play it online. Go PS3, and if you don't happen to have a blu-ray player you will have one. Also the argument that live is better than PSN is getting weaker and weaker as PSN has some great exclusives, not to mention a ton of well priced PlayStation 1 games.

Was just going to say that. PS3 offers waaaaay more games than the 360 (I am not a fanboy, I have both, play both regularly). PS3 has amazing titles actually. Uncharted, Uncharted 2, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid, Ratchet and Clank 1 and 2, God of War III and many more. Also, PS3 has free online gaming, though it isn't as good as Xbox Live in my opinion. And the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player and a web browser.

Also, graphics are a bit sharper on PS3.

I have both, mainly got the PS3 for the blu-ray and the option to play games is a bonus. My Xbox gets far more use, but I've slowly started building a blu-ray collection. It's pretty much personal preference, I don't think there really is a wrong route to go. Do you like playing NCAA and Madden online? If so, as others have said, PS3's online network is free.

But yeah, definitely branch out a bit more with games, both have some pretty cool exclusive titles to offer if you've got the time.
