i'm sensing a pattern here in similarities of taste. it seems that alot of people who like emo tend to also like post-rock. is it a general consensus or am i just retarded?

i started listening to post rock after, so you might be right.

the correlation just stated out like it is sounds retarded, but I think it's because people who start listening to emo/screamo eventually find bands like Envy and City of Caterpillar that are screamo with post-rock. Post-rock fans find the aforementioned bands and may start checking out screamo. Voila

I dunno. I was never a huge fan of CoC and I started listening to post-rock before Envy came out with Insomniac Doze. I got interested in post-rock after screamo, but independently from screamo. They just have a nice contrast, depending on my moods, that makes listening to both enjoyable.

wtf
anywho, they are definitely connected in many aspects and some tend to cross that line. i know plenty of people on both sides that don't particularly like the other though.

I wasn't saying that to be cool or cutting edge. It's just, that album is usually considered as spanning the gap between the two genres, but it wasn't really a factor for me. And I'm sure plenty of fans of either genre don't like the other, but there are some similarities, stylistically speaking.

Envy have been using post-rock elements for years.

yeah seriously. they only got HEAVY HEAVY influences of post rock when they collaborated with mogwai on "mr. beast".

Actually, post-rock is kind of what's helped get me back into emo recently. I liked bands like Reversal of Man and Orchid for a long time, but kind of drifted away from the screamo scene and started listening to a lot more post-hardcore, which I found to be a lot more creative. While I was on that kick, I expanded my tastes in the indie dimension overall (with bands like Cursive bridging the gap between post-hardcore and indie rock) which led me to groups like Godspeed, Explosions, and Mogwai. Meanwhile, one of my favorite second wave emo bands (Appleseed Cast) was getting post-rockier by the day. Fans of these bands tipped me off to CTTS, COC, and Envy, which kind of showed me that there is still a lot of interesting stuff that can be done using emo. So now I've come back to the fold.

I still laugh every time someone abbreviates City of Caterpillar.
By the way, I enjoy every band you name dropped. You have good taste.

He's talking about Appleseed Cast, to which I disagree.
The rawness of a good deal of the tracks on "The End of the Ring Wars" definitely point to post-emo-indie whatever, aka second wave emo... maybe third...I have no clue.

Yeah, I guess you're right. But it's more obvious on Insomniac Doze than on Dead Sinking Story.

I'm not trying to be harsh or anything, but that's a terrible way to judge a band's sound, especially when you are claiming someone else lacks knowledge
