The whole AVA vs Plus 44 thing is getting way over proprtion

AVA:
Tom has been promoting this thing since he pretty much started to record the album, and in my honest opnion it isn't the greatest. I Like coldplay, i do enjoy alot of U2 Stuff, i didn't think that his album "changed the face of rock forever." It was really uplifting i give him credit for that he was right. However, he hyped his album way to much and if you break it down the lyrical content of his album was decent, but some songs had really bad lyrics and i think we all know which ones. The whole 1-2 minute intros are also annoying, just play the fucking song. They totally ripped off some U2 riffs to but all in all its a really good effort, and you have to take in consideration that Tom basiclly departed himself from blink-182/boxcar racer. He wrote a more "mature" album and the target audiance was not the avid blink fans as hurtful as it may seem. Yeah the first people who were intersted was blink fans. To this day the band has targed a larger audiance then just the average blink-182 fans.

Plus 44:
Personally, anyone on this site that says that the lyrical content is shitty. Then they seriously need to pick up any blink-182 album and realize blink was never a band for lyrics, they were fun and they were really shitty at times but the songs were fucking sweet, something u can party, or skate too it was good old times. Personally i feel his lyrics in the last 3 songs are really good and a step up from some of the songs he sang on the self titled. The music speaks for its self you can tell that they didn't really depart from the whole pop punk sound, which is fucking awesome. seriously, it just sounds like blink, with synth which i LOVE. Plus 44 are basiclly staying within the same target as Blink was so keep it at that.

Personally i think that plus 44 is much more origonal than ava for the simple state that anything tom delonge has been saying for over a year, is a crock a shit, his album was not as good as X&Y, and alot of U2 albums blow that out of the water. You can clearly tell that AVA stole old blink demos, and i've said it since day one cause u can listen to "The war" and "distraction" and oh god, u can so hear the similarness to the self titled blink cd.
But at the end of the day i think that AVA would have sold more just because tom marked it to a larger audiance. But who knows maybe Plus 44 will be able to sweep up and grab all the youngins as well as blink fans.

I really like the song. It's a solid song with some ok lyrics but a really cool sound. But like Lycanthorpe it has it's cool parts but still nothing too special. Still, good job Mark and I'm definetely gonna buy the album.

I agree with that. But I've really enjoyed the AVA album and people need to give Tom a break about his comments. If anything he got overly exciated about the music he was doing and went over the top. People forget though that he's said those type of comments even when he was in BLink and no one seemed to mind.

I hope this doesn't develop into something where people want a war or massive feud to start between Plus 44 and AVA. Both are good bands. Besides listening to both +44 and AVA has really made me miss Blink and what they would have sounded like. The sound of both AVA and +44 combined would have been amazing and special.

Ok, ok I will Chime in my opinions: I will try to keep these short. I am 23 and am the biggest Blink fan on the planet, always have been, always will be.


Ava: I was totally excited, and then I was totally let down. Everthing is less than o.k., from the music to Tom, tom changed, DRAMATICALLY. I didn't even end up buying, or downloading any of the songs, I am pretty much in denial that ava even exists.

Plus 44: From what I have heard so far, I definetly like +44 better than ava. Although, I don't think the songs are great. I do keep in mind however some of my favorite songs took me a little while to get into. I like the fact that it is still somewhat like Blink. My complaint is I wish they would retain some of the buddah- enema of the state sound. Every song on Dude ranch is so great, I just hope they have songs that touch on those grounds. Sometimes I feel they are trying to be too creative with the music, the radness of blink was they kept it somewhat simple and it was amazing. I really hope that Travis turns up the drumming and gets my blood pumping with some of that super fast punk stlye drumming that has defined his style. These plus 44 songs kind of lack an amazing hook, and I just wish they would play fast and loud and lose the slow alternative style. i wish is was more upbeat, and fast.

I hope Plus 44 is great, because ava is nonexistient to me. Part of me still believes that none of these bands will ever come close to blink, and that Tom, Mark, and Travis all need to be together again, before we get another amazing album. Blink 182 seriosly ruled and I don't think it will ever be topped. Not just Blink's music, but the old stlye, being a blink fan was like a freakin lifestyle.

i wonder if mark tom and travis know how big a part of alot of kids lives they were. They certainly were a big part of mine. at their height, the way they were just normal guys, the way the band operated, the songs they wrote. everything seemed so awesome. So many songs that i have attachments to. I think tom said it best "blink was never a band for depressed kids. Normal kids listened to blink, kids who knew life isnt all bad, but it could also be so much better"

the thing about AVA, is tom should have never said one word about his band, and it would have been fine forum-wise. the music didn't live up to his own personal hype. theres about 5 really good songs on the AVA cd, and 5 really bland songs, imo.

this cd sounds awesome imo, and im guessing in a lot of others opinions too. I am liking this a lot more than AVA personally. I dun think they need a solo, solos are overrated, sound good, but why put one in if you dun need one? I saw Plus 44 last night at the Roxy and I must say they did a pretty good job. Here's my little mini-review: They practically played what I guessed to be the whole album. I would say this is definitely more of the Blink182 spin-off band people are looking for. Stylistically, I'd say their falls somewhere between "Take Off.."/""Enema" and "Untitled". The fun pop songs are gone and everything is much darker. Lots of the songs were "downers" which Mark repeatedly called them, but the songs "Make You Smile" and "Cliff Diving" were very Blink sounding and freaking great. "Make You Smile" sounded like a hit, with a great intro and typical amazing drumming by Travis. Also "No It Isn't" stood up very well live. The band felt exactly what it was Blink 182 w/out Tom. It's a little sad and wierd seeing Mark sing next to two random dudes and joking around with them, but it should be good to see what happens with them from now on.

this is not an albm of the year type song....i admit, marks voice is very contgious, but upon further review.... if this is the first single? shit good luck...AVA kicked ass for a month then it died on me.. the yrics are weak, the guitar is generic (ie point- when the fuck are mark/tom going to realize that they will never be considereed a "decent" rock band without a guitar solo? relative lyrics and power chords will only tke you so far).... i guess the bar is set kinda high being a huge blink fan...

bottom line: they could have made a better album togethre as blink that these AVA/ +44 songs... its sa to see what they could have been....

Wow good song, theres a tinge of sadness when i hear anything by plus 44 cause after reading Marks interview and hearing this along with the AvA stuff one feels that Blink 182 were one album away from making that American Idiot / Californication / Whats the story Morning Glory Cd that wud have made them the biggest band in the world. Oh well i am lovin this song plus the other 2 plus 44 song i have heard.
