What does everyone think of the new This Providence (http://www.absolutepunk.net/thisprovidence) album? If you haven't heard it yet you can stream it here (http://altpress.com/media/) and read Scott's review here (http://www.absolutepunk.net/showthread.php?t=168903).

well well well... either jason changed his mind about the album or the " this album keeps growing on me" is meant sarcastically

personally, i like it...mainly because it's good catchy pop

I really like this album. I'm trying to be careful not to listen to it TOO much though, because it seems like one of those that might get old fast.

My Beautiful Rescue is one of the catchiest songs of all time, period. This album grows on me everytime I listen to it. It hooks you in easily with the opening of the first song and just doesn't stop from there. Could be one of my top tens for this year.

it's meh, i agree with scott that it doesn't have that certain flavor to it that our world's divorce had. But it's definately not bad.

the songs are extremely fun to listen to only because i love the vocals. but seriously the gatsbys ripoff is too strong for me to like it. the opening riff for walking on water just ruins everything for me. they arent' the this providence that made our worlds divorce unique.

I prefer their previous release. I've given the new one only one listen, but it just doesn't have the same feel as Our World's Divorce.

They never had that feel on Our World's Divorce and it really bummed me out.

after listening to it again. i become more and more disgusted. this band, what happened to the alternating vocals that was so prudent in the first record, what happened to quirky tunes that were original and not ripped off, what happened to the flavor that got me off my seat and scream the words to everyday. just like the new spitalfield. two hugely successful bands on their previous efforts , that just seemed to rush their cds together and lose all their unique qualities in the process. fucking a. at least we still got mewithoutyou ripping off roofs like bottle caps.

i agree with scott on his review. if this cd was an ep of the first 6 songs. itd be the cd of the year. ive listend to the first 6 songs bout 10 times today. but i always seem to stop after the song losing control. its a pretty solid record but wish the rest of the songs were just as good. they are just decent.

First, the new Spitalfield is way better than their last album, I have no idea what you're talking about on that one. It's a combination of their last two albums - and damn good.

I agree with you on TP though, but I hated their last album and like this one because it's so "familiar" - so I look at that as a plus at the moment. I am also kinda desperate for new music right now, so I have been playing this CD over and over because I really want to like it and have something "new."

Last, neither band were "hugely successful" with their last releases.

i know not hugely successful in records sold or anything but in my opinion i think their formulas were very successful and spitfalfield i guess is going to have to grow on me because I'm losing my sense of enjoyment after track 3. I want to like this providence so bad I just can't. I think ill keep listening to the matches, over it, these arms are snakes and mewithoutyou for now. I'll give spitalfield another chance. I just remember the first time after listening to stop doing bad things I was floored and I don't really hear that here.

i think there are a few tracks it could have done without, that's for sure, but for the most part i'm really enjoying it. i bought it at the show on saturday and i've been listening to it a lot since then. our worlds divorce is still my favorite though.

the last 4 songs aren't too great. well walking on water isn't so hot and the last 2 for sure aren't that great. it shouldn't be split into 2 songs at the end -- pointless. it's pretty good overall but first album tops it of course.

I'm with most people when I say it isn't as good as Our Worlds Divorce, but it's definitely not anything bad. I enjoy it's pop-rock sensibility, but I just think Casey Bates needs to back off the up-and-coming Seattle bands in order to help them all have a different, distinctive sound of their own.

I think this record rules...it is definitely different that Our Worlds Divorce, but who decided that a band can't change up their sound a little? I think the dance tunes are way infectious, and Dan's voice sounds amazing. And if you take time to actually listen to what he is singing about, you might actually get something out of it. I love it...way to go TP

i understand the sentiment that "our world's divorce" sounds like a better record. for me it's because that first record was bursting with innocence and eagerness. it was such an exuberant modesty, like an almost self-conscious and earnest awareness throughout the entire disc. the self-titled doesn't have that because the band isn't at that same musical position anymore (new band, first record, blah blah). that's just my take on it. they've gone from wide-eyed intensity to a kind of gimmicky let's-wear-matching-outfits! thing. regardless, i still love the new album.

i guess i must be deaf, though, because while i can hear a little gatsbys influence ("secret love"), i wouldn't call it blatantly ripping off anything. if we wanna pin the tail on the gatsbys fan game, then it goes to the recent forgive durden. but i'm not complaining: any band that sounds like gatsbys will sound like gold to me.

This cd is one of my favorites of 06

Personally, this cd impresses me even more than the last because it's more honest and most importantly they stay true to their beliefs unlike many bands that meet fame, they haven't forgotten their beliefs and in fact they shout them louder than ever it seems.

This cd is very clever, relates to everyone - whether or not they're willing to admit it, it's catchy in a way that it makes you move and moves you to yell out the entire chorus the next time around, and quite frankly it kind of pisses me off when people are so concerned with comparing the way the instruments sound together to other bands when naturally lyrics are what set bands apart - it's been that way for years and probably will forever be that way.

Who knows though. They might get huge like Panic did and Fall Out Boy. I just wish the Hush Sound would get huge. That band deserves fame.

I think this album is miraculous. I see big things in this bands future for sure. One thing that bothers me though is the song "Wolf In Sheeps Clothing". It's funny though since this is by far my favorite song on the cd. The falsetto in the beginning of the song makes me stomach turn. What get's me though is hwo similar it is to "Wine Red" by the Hush Sound. Call me crazy but they have a very similar vibe and sound. I don't know what to think of it and I'm going to keep my comments to myself but it bothers me in a sense. All in all this album is great. Also, if you listen to "Our Flag is White" off Our World's Divorce and "Losing Control" off the new cd they allude to one another. I think that is quite rad.

I tend to be an objective listener when it comes to music. So any band comparisons will come after I have give the band a chance to state their claim. The album is wonderful. Some will knitpick and say, "it sounds like this band or that band" but even if you intend to sound like someone else it takes talent to actually write and record the songs. It bugs me when people write-off a band because they are reminded of another.

i totally agree.

this album is really good. you can't really say they're ripping off of other bands, because:
1) there isn't a neverending "supply" of music. people are constantly taking INFLUENCE from their favorite bands and incorporating it into their own. a lot of other bands sound like their influences because those are the people who make them want to make music, so they're going to approach the music like them as well.
2) i think TP is still progressing into their sound. sure, this album is different from Our World's Divorce, but you can still see some similarities. Phil doesn'y do as many vocals on this one as the last, but they're still there. if you listen to a few of the songs from each one, you hear the similarities in sound.

i really love this album. i think they did a great job, both musically and lyrically.
