Hey guys,
So I wasn't sure exactly where to put this in the forums, but this seemed like the best spot for it. I'm running the NYC Marathon in November for a charity called Team Hole in the Wall and need to raise $3,000. I'm not exactly an everyday poster on absolutepunk, but I thought it would be worth a shot to see if anyone was interested in donating money, even if it's only a $1. If you guys have any questions at all about the charity I'm running, how to donate, or just a few words of advice on running a marathon or encouragement, PM me or drop me a line at jschmid88@gmail.com.
Thanks!

I believe marathons are how Americangod picks up most of the girls he gets with, they are to tired to run away.

Because we broke up 7 months ago.
I donated $5. Hope you do well in the marathon. I'll smoke a cigarette in your honor.
Good luck! :-)

don't hurt yourself and stay healthy. on your long training runs, don't push yourself past threshold for very long. stretch alot, do a good amount of cross training, and make sure you're getting your miles in and you'll be good. good luck!

well as far as training goes if you're just trying to finish the most important thing is to work your way up to logging 52 + miles a week at your own pace and one day a week put in a 5 or 10K at a good moving pace. once you can do that focus on improving your split's Ie. running the same pace the whole way through while increasing your milage and you should be set. especialy out at the NYC 26.1 miles isn't as long as it seems if you put in a good run EVERY day you feel healthy

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated. I'll have to start focusing on my 5K & 10K. Didn't think about doing that.

Depends on what your goal is. Do you just want to simply finish or go for a low time?

Honestly I'm just looking to finish considering this is my first marathon and I'm not in the greatest of shape.

When I ran my first marathon the goal was just to finish. I followed a training program by this guy Hal Higdon. The book is called "Marathon: The Ultimate Training Guide". Would really recommend it.

bumping this...
if you're looking to raise money try getting friends and family members to sponsor you. ask them to donate a certain $ amount per mile. ideally at least $1 per mile, though $.25 per mile still adds up. also make sure that people know the purpose behind your team and where their money is going. team in training, for example, is for leukemia. letting people know that their money is going towards a specific cause makes it much easier in raising the money.

Best of luck. As someone who used to run half-marathon's in High School, i can't even imagine what running the full thing is like. Lots of water!

I made this thread months ago, but I'm just about finishing up on trying to get donations in. Just thought I would ask one more time if anyone would be interested in donating. Any donation would be a huge help.

How was the twin cities? That's on my list of marathons I'd like to do. It has always had the reputation of being very well organized and one of the best scenic urban races in the US.
